Leo choked a little as he gasped for air, his eyes wide with fear, which for a man who rarely showed what he was thinking or feeling, must have looked foreign to the people he loved most. He saw Niccy and Charlie, grateful for them here, but not wanting them to have to see this. The red-haired woman who knelt by his side actually looked like she knew what she was doing. The lights flickered on, but the darkness that crept in made it seem like not much of a difference. Just the fact that a blaring headache now joined the ache of his wounds.
He fought to stay awake, not wanting to slip away just yet. He would be back, he wouldn't leave his family. He would make the bastard who did this pay. He'd go after everything he cared about and make him watch it. His heart stuttered in his chest as adrenaline picked up in him, mixing with the pain.
The one person in the world who could keep him grounded and here, was his wife. Seeing her so broken was hurting almost as badly as the damned doctor poking at his skin. His hand tightened around hers, drawing strength from her, or as much as he could. "Ti amo, ti amo..." He repeated himself, not to say goodbye, but to keep himself there, to make sure she knew. Just in case.
