The Ladies Who Lunch
Who: Callan and Abigail
What: Lunch Date
Where: The Paramount
When: Late Saturday Afternoon
Rating: PG to PG-13
Status: Incomplete

Sitting at the table nearest the plate glass window so that she could people-watch, Callan reflected that it was good to be back in Boston. She'd been travelling again, gallery business in New York, and while the bustle of the Big Apple was exciting for the first few days she was always glad to get back home. She'd managed to speak to several promising young artists, which would mean a nice bonus if even one of them agreed to sign on with the Chase in the coming weeks. The waiter offered her a menu and the wine list, and she perused them while keeping one eye out for Abigail.

It was unusual for her to seek out company her first couple of days back from a trip, but Abigail was not just a friend but practically family. Business aside, she'd grown up with the Connellys. Which reminded her, she was going to have to put a phone call in to Patrick, to see if he needed her for anything. You could never tell when an emergency would come up.

But not today. Today was a girl thing, and her cell phone was turned off, even for legitimate work. They'd eat, they'd talk about guys, they'd discuss art. Good times all around.

Abigail was running late, a result of running into one of her Uncles as she’d dashed out of the house. Ever since she’d returned from her brief stint in New Mexico, she was constantly having to answer twenty questions whenever she left the house; where was she going? Who was she going with? Was she taking her cell phone? Would there be any boys there? Would there be alcohol consumption? What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? It was beginning to grow very frustrating, but on the other hand, Abigail understood that she had brought it on herself and that she should be grateful she was even allowed out of the house at all.

Stumbling out of her car as she attempted to pull her other shoe on, the blonde girl looked up towards the restaurant, catching sight of Callan. Regaining her balance, Abigail made her way through the doors and took a seat across from her, “Hey” Abigail offered, reaching down to adjust the shoe she’d put on haphazardly moments earlier, “Sorry I’m late, I had to convince Uncle Matt that I wasn’t going to hang out with a posse of deranged, meth-heads”

"I guess that means I should be flattered," Callan remarked lightly, ignoring the irony that she was considered 'safe company. "Your uncle worries, that's what adults do when they care."

Then again, Abigail waswas likely safer with her than with anyone outside of the immediate family circle. "How are you, anyway? Have you recovered from that...episode?" 'Episode'. That was a polite term for it. And she had been busy at the time, or she likely would have intervened before things completely exploded. If a cool head was what was needed, she could be there. If worse came to worse...well, she'd be there for that too.

"If you're polite about it, you can have a glass of wine with me, but don't tell anybody because I don't want to be accused of being a bad influence." The redhead indicated the other woman's menu, which still lay closed on the table. "Go ahead, order anything you want. I'll pick up the check."

“Flattered that you’re not a deranged meth-head? You should be” Abigail asked with a cheeky smile as she sat back up in the chair. She gave a nod in agreement at the analysis of adults and their tendency to worry, Abigail worried all the time, it was hard not to, it was harder to come to the realization that you were the source of worry for others.

“I’m good” She reached for the menu and opened it on the table in front of her, propping her elbows on the table, she leaned forward and began to peruse the selection, “I wouldn’t call it an episode” she replied with a small smile, glancing up from the menu briefly, “I’d call it a series, and then I would liken it to General Hospital or maybe Passions - I’m out of the woods, but there’s still plenty of time for me to fall down a well - It’s a pessimistic outlook, but at least I’ll be prepared”

"How's school? Have you pulled your science grades up to at least a B yet?" Not that Callan could point a finger, science had never been her best subject either. She did okay in it, but give her a book about painting or sculpture and she could quote volumes on the subject. Everyone had to work to their strong points.

"I feel like I haven't seen you in months," she added with an apologetic smile. "All work and no play, I guess. Are you still seeing..." She lifted one finger in a 'wait a minute' gesture, looking up at the ceiling. "There was someone, wasn't there? I had imagined that there was. I hope your personal life isn't in the same shape mine is lately."
