Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
This is Ahchoo (John/Lori).
Who: John and Lori.
What: John and Lori go on another date.
Where: Starting at Lori's apartment.
When: Saturday Afternoon
Rating: Probably kiddie safe
Open? To Lori!

John hated the dating period between friends and sleep-overs, but dating Lori hadn’t been so difficult. Dating Lori had been fun; they’d gone to coffee and fed the ducks, she’d invited him to go along with her to pick out a kitten, they’d gone to a midnight showing of Robin Hood; Men in Tights and followed the evening up with reenactments and slurpees and he had screamed like a girl throughout Cloverfield just incase she was scared and feeling silly. Dating Lori was like hanging out with an attractive friend.

He stepped out of his car, catching a glimpse of his reflection - his hair was looking cute, he had the right amount of stumble, he was wearing his cleanest pair of jeans and a grey T-shirt that read; it’s all fun and games until the cops show up, a christmas present from his Mother who knew only too well how her son liked to dress. Slamming the door shut, he jogged the distance to the apartment entrance, affording some random bystanders a wave just before he proceeded to lean on the buzzer to Lori’s apartment.

Lori was midway through trying to finish the last chapter she'd needed to study for the night when she heard the buzzer at her apartment door. She was thrilled to be going out with John, who'd quickly become one of the people she most liked to be around. She closed her book and grabbed her coat, slinging it over her shoulders as she headed toward the door to greet John.

She took her bag and keys from the table in the entry, then looked over her shoulder, mentally going over her checklist to make sure she had everything she needed for the night. When she was satisfied, Lori turned out the lights to her apartment and opened the front door. She grinned at John, then moved out into the hall, locking the door behind her.

"Hi!" She pressed up onto her toes, steadying herself with a hand on his shoulder as she planted a quick hello kiss on his cheek. "You ready? And did I dress right? You didn't really give me the heads up as to if this was a dress nice date, or a t-shirt and jeans date, so I mid-lined it."

A dorky-grin crossed his face as Lori planted a kiss on his cheek, he briefly rested a hand on her waist, before it dropped back to his side. Lori was very different to the kind of girl he usually dated; his Mother actually liked her and John couldn't help but believe that that fact alone meant he should treat her differently, more carefully.

He nodded as she spoke, "You look great" he replied, with an enthusiastic nod, bouncing lightly on the toes of his sneakers, "So as long as you feel as though you would be comfortable pulling a commando-roll in those-threads, we're good to go" he jerked a thumb behind him back towards where he’d parked the car, “We’re going to play laser tag”

She grinned at his plans for the evening, then turned back to her door, unlocking the knob and heading back in. She flipped off her shoes and left them on the living room floor. "C'mon." Lori waved him into her apartment as she rummaged in her bedroom closet for sneakers. There was no way that she was going to run around and play laser tag with a tactical weapons specialist in oxfords.

Once she'd unearthed her sneakers, she pulled them on and laced them up, and came back to find John standing awkwardly in her entry. "Oooh, this is your first time IN my apartment, isn't it?" She laughed. "Okay, quick tour. Hallway, living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. Okay! Let's go!" Her brief tour was over, and she linked her arm around John's, pulling him behind her as she locked her door and headed them toward the stairs.

John stood in the door way, with his hands in the pockets of his jeans, carefully summing up the situation that was Lori’s apartment. Girl’s apartments were always more interesting than guy apartments; they smelt nice, things coordinated and there were very rarely any Megadeth posters on the walls. He didn’t plan on venturing very far into her apartment, but if he were to, the first thing he’d do was check out the contents of her refrigerator, you could tell a lot of things about someone by looking at the contents of their refrigerator; it was fact. The tour was as described, extremely brief, before John had a chance to reply, he found himself linked to her and out the door, “Where can I lodge a complaint?” John asked as they made their way down the stairs, “I don’t think I got my tour-worth”

She smirked at him as he complained about the tour, and Lori poked him in the ribs. "Oh please, like you have a leg to stand on. It was free, and my bra was hanging in plain sight over the bathtub. You got more than your tours-worth." She snickered, then slid her hand to John's, lacing her fingers with his in a gesture that made her a little nervous.

"Are you ready for me to kick your ass at laser tag, buddy?" She gave him a small grin and squeezed his hand as they descended the stairs.

"Seeing a bra does not constitute as a great tour" John replied glancing down at their hands nervously, "A great tour should consist of one or all of the following-" he replied holding up a hand to illustrate each of his following points with a finger, "One; a hobo having a bath in the sink. Two; A copy of The Anarchist Cookbook. Three; A monkey"

Following her down the stairs, John shrugged, "In a fit of good sportsmanship, I was going to suggest we play on the same team, but if you're going to be like that, you can have your own team. But I should warn you, I will not go easy on you because you're a girl" he smiled sheepishly as he butted shoulders with her, "Or because I think you're cute"

Lori laughed at his idea of a great tour. "Well, I don't have the hobo, but I'll mental note that as a good gift for you. The monkey, no. I'm terrified of monkeys. But I do have a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook. 2, in fact. One was my dad's from 1971, and my brother bought me a new edition for Christmas a few years ago." She looked at him, her face completely serious. "If I'd have known that was all it took, I'd have brought down the older version and shown you all the notes my dad wrote. I'd have the title of Best Tour Ever."

Lori scowled at him, then shook her head. "No, no. I like the idea of being on the same team." He continued, and she blushed violently, knocking her shoulder back into his. "I can be a cute girl and be on your team. I'm okay with that." She grinned at him, suddenly very aware of his smile.

They reached the front door and Lori pulled it open, never remembering to wait for the 'chivalrous gesture' her mother always told her to wait for. She was capable of opening doors. They headed out into the cold, and Lori moved a step closer into John subconsciously. "Besides, if we were on different teams, we'd be nearly evenly matched. If we're on the same team, we can slaughter those pimply 14 year olds." Lori grinned up at John, tilting her head to watch him for a second before turning her attention back to where they were walking.

“Oh that is hot” John replied with a chuckle as he skirted around to face her, walking backwards out of the apartment with faux-enthusiasm, “I love that I’m dating someone from a long line of anarchists - if you play your cards right, one day I’ll have the pleasure of kicking your door in and reading you your rights” as they stepped out of the apartment, he reverted to his place by her side, glancing at her sideways, “It’ll be a quick speech of course, you won’t have any”

Feeling Lori move closer to him, John threw his arm around her shoulder almost subconsciously, “Rad! I wanted you on my team anyway” he replied giving her shoulder a pat, “We’ll use you to lure those nerds into a false sense of security, they’ll never know what hit them”

Lori slid her arm around his waist as he looped his arm around her shoulder, feeling a giddy high running through her. Like she'd just stolen Lance's pixie stix collection and gone on a bender.

She grinned like a dork up at him, leaning her head over to rest on his shoulder lightly as they walked. "You're not allowed to kick down my door without a warrant, unless it's because there is a fire and Moogie is stuck under something and can't get out. And no, I won't have started the fire trying to make a pipe bomb. I take the explosives lab next month."

They walked along, Lori spotting John's car a few more parking meters down the street. "And of course you want me on your team. But I'm not understanding how I'll draw nerds. I mean, sure, I'm a girl. I've got boobs and other parts I'm sure they've never seen outside of computer porn. But I'll probably scare them." She laughed, squeezing him before letting her arm drop as they arrived at his car.

"Don't be ridiculous" John replied, motioning vaguely with his free hand, "This is America, we don't give you Anarchists the same graces as the common meth-head, we will kick in your door without a warrant, and we're not going to feel bad about it afterwards" he reached up a hand to tap her nose lightly, a teasing-tone in his voice, "You are so cute, so young, so full of ideals; what are they teaching you on this internship?"

Letting his hand drop from Lori's shoulders, John skipped ahead to unlock the passenger side door of his truck, before open the door for Lori, "Let me tell you a thing or two about Nerds" John started as he shut the door after she'd climbed in, before running around to the drivers side and unlocking his own door, "Nerds are like insects; they see the bug-zapper-" he waggled a finger at Lori as he climbed into the drivers' side, "-that's you by the way. They keep seeing all their little buddies fly into the light, consequently meeting their insect-maker, but the temptation of the light itself seems like such a reward that they don't care if they get zapped" he fitted the key into the ignition and started the car, turning to look at Lori with a grin, "They don't care what comes next"

Lori scoffed at his teasing, poking him in the ribs. "Hey now. If you break down my door and take me to anarchist prison, you have to take care of Moogie." She looked at him with mock seriousness. "Are you prepared for that responsibility? Moogie is a terror."

She slid into the car, nodding a quick thank you at him opening the door for her. She pulled it closed and waited with baited breath as he rounded the car and got in, laughing as he made her analogous to a bug zapper.

"Wow, that is JUST the way to get into my heart. I'm a nerd zapper." She shook her head, returning his grin. "They do care what comes next. They have schedules, good sir. They have meetings with their World of Warcraft guilds, and dates to keep with their dungeon masters. Laser tag is no laughing matter, you know. They come in it to win it. They've got strategy. And we'll end up with 10 year olds. You better be as good as everyone says you are."

Lori leaned her elbow into the door and let her head rest against her palm, watching John. "We should try paintball sometime. I'd like to see you in coveralls." She grinned at him, already enjoying herself.

“Moogie is not a terror” John replied with a faux-gasp of shock, “I’ll have you know, Moogie and I are like this” he replied holding up crossed fingers, “I’d take a bullet for that kitten, and I’m confident that he feels the same way about me” Granted John had only ever seen the kitten on the one occasion when Lori and he had picked it out, but considering her was a dog person, he found that he was quite fond of the cat; he loved to hear Moogie stories.

He snorted as she dissected Nerds and their schedules, “I think you’re putting your Nerds up on a pedestal” he replied with a nonchalant shrug as he pulled out of the curb, before suppressing a laugh, “I think you love them” the word ‘love’ was drawn out teasingly so that it sounded closer to ‘luuuurvee’.

“I didn’t know you’d be into paint-ball” John replied, turning his head briefly to look at Lori, “You know the FBI and PD have a monthly game, you should sign up for it, our team numbers are kind of running short; Emerson made us recruit a couple of accountants, you should see those poor guys out there, I’ve never seen such terrified faces”

"You've managed to bond with Moogie? Well, since you and Moogie have such a close relationship, perhaps I should take a step back and allow you two your space." She grinned at him, knowing he'd fallen for the little Siamese the minute she'd shown it to him in the cattery at the SPCA.

She laughed at his assumption that she loved nerds, and she nodded her head. "I'm on a date with a nerd, so yes, that about sums it up. You should be happy I have such a high opinion of your people." She put up hands to block against possible playful hits, laughing the entire time.

Lori nodded at the idea that she should join the paintball team. "Yeah, my brothers would take me out and cover me in pillows and couch cushions and make me be a moving target for their Air Soft rifles in the back yard. I'll tell you, you can have 5 inches of foam padding on and those things still hurt like a bitch." She lifted the sleeve of her shirt to reveal a small, smoothed scar on her forearm. "That would be when my brother blinded me with about 3 shots to the face and covered my goggles with paint. I then ran into a tree and the branch gouged my arm."

Why she was babbling on about getting beaten up by a tree, she wasn't sure, but Lori was sure John would be amused.

"My brothers are assholes." She grinned at John, then laughed at the mental picture of the accountants out in the woods with paintball guns. "I can imagine you and Lance don't help with their terror."

“My people?” John asked with exaggerated incredulity, shaking a finger at Lori while trying not to laugh, “I am not a Nerd, sure I’m willing to admit that I may have been briefly addicted to World of Warcraft, but you know what? It’s a disease. Like alcoholism. I can’t help what I’m susceptible to. I’m not a Nerd.” turning his attention away from Lori, John snorted to himself, “I am not a Nerd”

As the mental image of a young Lori covered in pillows popped into his mind, John couldn’t help but laugh, “I bet they laughed for days” he replied, still laughing himself, before he realized he was supposed to be on Lori’s side. Giving a small cough he attempted to compose himself, “I mean, what bastards” the stupid grin on his face didn’t make him entirely convincing, “Yeah, I like to put my SEAL voice on and yell at them. It makes them frantic, they do this adorable thing where they just start running on the spot in circles”

"You are too. I'm very sorry I had to be the one to let you in on this little known fact, but you are, in fact, a nerd." She reached over and patted him on the arm, giving him a mocking look of sympathy. "It's okay. I already knew, and I still like you."

Lori made a face at John laughing, then shook her head. "They were always laughing." She smirked at him sideways, then poked his arm. "And you, buddy, are supposed to be nice to me, not enjoying the brotherly torments of my past." When he sobered and chose Lori's side, she gave a nod. "Damned skippy."

Lori gave a laugh at the mental picture John painted for her about the accountants freaking out, and shook her head again. "You are meeeeeeeean to them. I can only imagine what Lance does. I'm sure he pants' them on the field then runs away giggling." Lori gazed at John for a moment, then looked out the window when she caught herself, watching the passing traffic.
