Sam nodded, and his expression turned to a wince. In his head he could hear Lucifer laughing, but he knew that was't real. No, the girl holding him up, that's what was real.
Each step was excruciating, and not only because Lydia was at least a foot shorter than Sam and he had to lean down and keep his knees bent to make it work. His head throbbed, and every footfall sent a shock of pain right through him.
After a few steps, Sam seemed to remember the water bottle he held in one hand. He stopped abruptly and uncapped the bottle. Though he wavered, he didn't fall, and he kept one arm around Lydia's shoulders. He guzzled half the remaining water straight down.
