Uncertain what she was being warned about, Shizuka froze, looking around for potential threats to her well-being. Finding none, she looked at Killian quizzically, not understanding but keeping her distance regardless. It was possible that the pirate simply preferred to keep to himself in the water, an odd quirk of his that he was unable to articulate properly, and she wasn't about to potentially make him uncomfortable by posing any questions. It would make for a much more dull experience, but considering Killian had been kind enough to show her to the lake in the first place, Shizuka was not going to voice any complaints.
Instead, she showed her displeasure by splashing water at him before swimming further out, then settled on her back and closed her eyes, letting herself casually drift, hair fanned out around her. If they weren't going to be able to interact as much as she'd expected, then she would take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the feel of the sun caressing her skin while the water cushioned her. Every so often, she swept her arms out and drew them back in, ensuring she did not grow so complacent that she fell asleep.
It was almost easy to forget that she wasn't back home, lounging in the ocean with her friends close at hand, and that later they would head to a restaurant to stuff themselves full of food and gossip about boys and complain about schoolwork and calories. The relative silence served as a harsh reminder that this wasn't home.
Sighing, Shizuka opened her eyes and straightened, irritatedly rubbing at her cheeks where the sun had already reddened her skin. Sunscreen should have been at the top of her list of things to bring. Glancing around at the empty lake, she belatedly realized that the pirate was nowhere in sight.
She blinked, brows furrowing, before beginning to swim closer to shore. "Killian?" she called out, figuring he was just underwater and would resurface shortly. A few heartbeats went by and she remained the only one there. Spinning in a slow circle, she wondered how long the man could hold his breath, and managed not to fall into a premature panic. "Where did you go?"
