Shizuka couldn't help but giggle, finding it amusing how many men she ran across who professed to dislike children and claim that they simply were not very good around them. In her experience, this awkwardness was borne from unfamiliarity, and very few were genuinely incompatible with little ones. "You might be surprised how well you would do if thrown into a situation with children," she said, drinking a little more of her wine. Then she managed to eat a few more pieces of her sandwich with one hand while she listened to him talk about Starfleet.
Lacking even the most basic information about his world and what this Starfleet was, she wondered if it was more of a government or a military organization. In fact, what did they even do up there? She'd seen Jim mention that they explored, which was all well and good, but what did they do beyond that? Did they just catalog what they discovered and move on? Was the ship packed full of stuffy historians and anthropologists or were there scientists too? The more she thought about it, the more complicated she realized it was. Regardless, shaving a year off to become Captain of one's own ship was impressive. "That's pretty awesome, Jim!" Grinning, she raised her glass. "To you kicking butt!"
