Jim found himself realizing that he would actually very much like to show Shizuka his world, the stars and just travelling in space. He liked her, even after only knowing her a short amount of time but beyond that getting the chance to travel in space was something everyone should get the chance to do. If you had asked him three or more years ago he would have just shrugged and moved on but since joining Starfleet he found that his opinion of it had changed dramatically. "Well I'll keep hoping it will be possible one day," he told her with a bright smile.
He nodded. "I think you would be good at that," he told her. "I myself can't stand children though for the most part," he grinned. "My brother wasn't that bad but for the most part I tended to avoid younger children if I could help it. Though I've changed a lot in the past few years so who knows but I still don't see myself being good at it." He was intrigued by all of that, he had never thought about most of that stuff - he had learned a lot of stuff when he was younger from hacking into College computers and the sorts but that was just because he was bored and for no particular reason other than that. "It is hard, I think you would have been happy with whatever you chose to do though."
"No actually. Until three or so years ago I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Someone pushed me into joining Starfleet, I challenged him by saying I would do it in three years instead of the usual four and now here I am," he shrugged. What he didn't mention was if it wasn't for Pike he would have probably ended up spending time in and out of jail for the rest of his life as a drunkard.
