Tesla was not really a good girlfriend. She had tried that sort of thing before, here and there. The relationships never lasted more than a week because she was so much the girl you wanted to take home to mom. And yet, at the same time, she wasn't that at all. She was well put together, pretty, had been fairly popular in college and even the FBI Academy. But she couldn't commit. She was flirty. She was certain that if she really ever fell in love, it would end in heartbreak. Now she was fairly certain that that was all out the door, she had fallen within a ten second interval, between when she unbuckled her belt and leaned across the seat and her lips pulled back off of Danny's mouth.
The idea had given her butterflies through Sunday evening, when they had gone out together. Things were natural with him, he made sense to her. She felt like she could be herself with him and he wouldn't misjudge her. They had had a nice meal and talked a bit, walked around and held hands and at the end of the night, she had kissed him properly. Wanted to amend her cowardly little kiss in her Jeep. She swore she saw stars after the good night kiss, and she had gone to bed in a better mood than most others. The news of what had happened to Grace the next morning was alarming, and she knew she had to go see her after work.
And she really had tried to focus on her ride-around, but all she could remember was the softness of his lips and the sinfully sweet way he had wormed his way into her long icy heart. When she was done, she didn't bother with going home to change. Just washed up and drove over to Danny's house. She was still wearing her day suit, and it was getting to be hot. Damn southern heat. Before getting out of the Jeep, she tossed her jacket so she was left in her white button down and the charcoal colored dress-slacks. Her hair was ironed straight and tied into a high ponytail. When she got out and approached the door, she didn't even need to knock. Grace practically came running out the door and Tess grinned, stooping onto one knee to scoop her up in her arms. "Hi, you." She squeezed her tightly.
"Hi!" Grace pulled back to grin up into her face. "You gotta come meet our new dog!!"
