Steve was pleasantly surprised at how the evening had turned out. Running into Killian certainly had not been planned, but he wasn't bad company. He might or might not like them, but he didn't make the entire conversation about that like some other people could. Steve could appreciate that, it sort of reminded him of Chin. He missed his father's old partner something terrible. But he was certainly getting by here with Danny and Kono and with the people that they had met since. And he knew that his best friend had found quite a bit of happiness since they had arrived here. That was very important to him.
"I think we're both a little softer than we'd like to admit," Steve said after a swallow, setting his bottle aside for a moment. He certainly had that roughness to him from his time in the NAVY and from having practically been raised by Joe White, but he had found a fuzzier edge to himself too, in his time in 5-0. He got to care about individual people again, and he had always had that in him, deep down inside of himself. He smiled a little and shook his head. "But we have to keep an edge in case anything diabolical does happen around here."
Steve could sort of tell that Hook wasn't thrilled by the idea, and he kicked back a little. "Well since you don't want strippers," He told him. "You should at least have some gambling. You can host a poker game within the party. All the food and the liquor will be there, so why not the cards?" After all, watching TV would only go so far. Danny was a better card player than he was, he had even trained Gracie to rob grown men of their money. Steve figured since it was going to be all men at the party anyway, they couldn't go wrong with a bit of gambling.
