"It was hard you know, knowing the things he did...in the name of preserving himself and the company he'd built." Which would be hers now, except she wanted nothing to do with it and sold her shares. He'd told her it was who she was, it was in her blood but Alex wanted to define her own life. She didn't want anyone else to do it for her, not even then. "But he loved me, and my mother." Even if Katya didn't feel the same, and was sleeping with Sergei. She didn't know what would happen then. Part of Alex was still angry at her mother for sleeping with her father's killer and the man who'd ruined her life, but Katya Udinov had many problems too. Alex had to forgive her. She hadn't even seen her in a long time, for her safety. And she knew she might never see her again if she was stuck here indefinitely.
She watched what Neal was doing as far as combining ingredients went. She supposed she could have measured everything out before hand for him, but that would have been too easy. She thought the cake would still turn out alright. It wasn't like he'd added salt instead of sugar or anything like that.
"Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm actually a little nervous about it." She confessed. And it wasn't because she thought she wasn't smart enough, but more because she'd be around people she didn't know all the time. She guessed it was like that for her here at first too, and she was doing well enough in getting over that. Technically if Alex wanted to, she wouldn't even need to go to school or get a job, but playing the role of socialite was something she only did when necessary. That wasn't who she was either.
