If Jo had known Sam was curious she would have gladly explained what she was doing. Since she didn't, however, Jo thought she already bothered him enough with things he probably had no wish to know about. Twirling the pencil between her fingers Jo mimicked Sam's surprise when he looked up at her face. He didn't do it often at all, much less did he let it last. It was nice. She thought. Jo smiled when he said he did not want to leave, warmth spreading from her core to her fingertips as he did. "Well then don't go. Let's hang out." She propped the notebook up on her knee and looked back at Sam, smiling. Making a mental note of what Sam had said about the yard, Jo looked back at the book he was holding. "Tell me about the book? I'm almost done here, turns out. Lots of work I don't want to do right now."
Maybe if she got him busy that way it would make up for how she had made him feel earlier. Get things back to normal.
