Not only did it require searching one's feelings but a lot of the things Jo asked him required an individual opinion of one sort or another and Sam hadn't been known for that for some time now. He believed and felt what others told him he should, and that was a habit that was going to take more than a few weeks to break, if it could be broken at all, that was. His throat felt a little dry when she explained it the way she did and he found himself looking at his feet, realising in that moment that he didn't have any shoes on. Maybe he should do that. Put shoes on. Or was it more polite not to? Socks were probably kinder on the floors than his boots but would that make it look like he was getting too comfortable? Sam tried to distract himself from that dilemma by response to Jo, though it wasn't easy for him to do that when he wasn't sure how he felt about the whole full moon situation. "My own thing?" Those were the words that had stuck in his head most prominently, it seemed, and he sounded as surprised by that as he felt. That didn't sound right. Didn't August keep them all together and tell them what to do? "I've never--" Sam wasn't sure how to word it. "I usually--" Jo would appreciate the honesty, he decided. "Go where I'm told." As Omegas should.
Following Jo out of the room -- boots versus socks question put to rest by his scooping up the former in his hand on the way out the door and carrying them with him as he went -- and towards the stairs Sam furrowed his brow a little. Try everything? It made a little more sense when she clarified that they would space it out a bit. Her mention of cheeseburger and fries made him remember his first meeting with August, when the Alpha had told him he could come back to the house and stay, if he needed somewhere to go. Sam was surprised to realise the memory didn't fill him with any particular discomfort or anxiety and he found himself wondering what that meant as he trailed after Jo all the way down the stairs and onto the first floor.
