& the words are all escaping
Who: Aleksei and Winifred
Where: S.O. public library
When: late afternoon, after classes
Getting back into the swing of things was harder than Winifred would have thought possible. The classes she'd missed due to her injuries had covered a lot of ground since she'd been out, and she had a lot to make up before she was squared away. She was starting to get a little bit in over her head, but luckily she was still able to find time to get hours at the Owl's Nest so she could pay her rent, with a few snatches of time here and there to spend with Isaiah. Winifred couldn't be any more grateful for being almost completely healed, but she was definitely not used to being this far behind when it came to college. Even Lorcan had told her that she needed to get out of the apartment and do something fun. She'd only gone because he'd threatened to cover her apartment with feathers, or else she would have still been trying to cram all of her homework into one day. 'Your professors are giving you time for a reason. Don't think you have to do it all in one day.' He had said. It had been a hard thing to do, but Winifred had finally gotten up and out of her apartment. The short trip from the Court to the library wasn't really enough for her to relax, but listening to music in her beat-up Ford Ranger definitely helped. She had books that she needed to get for her classes, but she wasn't quite looking forward to that part.
Wandering over into the section with all the cook books, Winifred smiled to herself. Maybe next time Isaiah came over, she could be the one to cook for him. It would be a pleasant surprise and she was definitely going to have to do it. But for that she would need a recipe and time to practice it so she didn't try it for the first time and find out it was awful. That would not be the best thing for a date. She ran her fingertips over the spines of the many cooking books, a soft hum coming to her lips as she looked. Lighting on the book titled "Cooking for Dummies", Winifred laughed a little as she picked it up and opened it. The section opened onto pasta recipes, and she paged through until she found something different. Homemade hamburgers sounded good, and here was a recipe that involved adding your own spices and forming the patties yourself. Winifred was already thinking about all the things she would need to prepare it as she skimmed the recipe. It seemed easy enough, so long as she had everything prepped before Isaiah showed up. He could help her with the actual cooking part, seeing as she didn't exactly know how he liked his burgers cooked. She was a medium rare kind of girl, but that had everything to do with being from Texas. "If it ain't bleedin' when you eat it, it ain't a real burger," her father used to say. She smiled at the memory before her lips drew down in a frown. I wonder what he's doing right now. Lost in her musings, Winifred almost forgot that she was out in a public place where she might encounter other people.
