"Yeah, yeah. Whatever." She waved her hand at him and disappeared into the hallway.
The stairs were covered in a thick layer of dust. It was most definitely a good thing. No one had probably been up there since the place had been evacuated. Perfect. Pictures lined the wall as she ascended. A young couple. Easily in their early twenties. There was a wedding photo, some kind of hiking photo, and a picture of the two of them both wearing white shirts and khakis in some lame pose.
Laney stifled a laugh, pushing each frame askew as she went. Dumb people. She didn't care that they were most likely deceased. It was their own fault. She hadn't gone to any evacuation site when it'd been requested. Nope. She'd stayed far away from those. Had no one seen any movies? Did anyone have any common sense? Crazy. People were downright crazy. And dumb.
At the top of the stairs was a landing. She paused briefly to examine her surroundings. Three closed doors. She chose the one in front of her first. Bingo. A bedroom. And from the looks of it, the master bedroom. She made a beeline for the bureau, opening the drawers hungrily. "Yes! Yes yes yes." It was full of clothes-- clothes that looked like they would fit her! She pulled out a particularly cute looking (and light) top and held it against her. Yes!
"Hey, bean boy!" She quickly exited the room to lean over the railing at the landing. "I think there's some clothes up here for you. These people were young."
She hurried back into the room and unzipped her parka, tossing it onto the bed.
