I haven't posted a meme in nearly two weeks. I decided this had to be changed.

So, I tend to listen to music as I write and often create character-themed soundtracks as I go along. Some tend to get crazy huge (an old character I have has over a hundred songs, but that's because I compulsively add any song that remotely fits him.), broken into smaller posts (they listen to this vs. this is their mood), or they don't end up with anything at all and are annoying (I might have problems with writing in silence.)

So. Here's how this meme goes - reply to the post with either individual character comments or ones that cover all your kids. Then in the comment explain whether you're crazy like Kore and need music for certain characters (and if so, what) or what your preferred "soundtrack" is.

EDIT: And this is for both Pax and Bellum, kids.

Apparently, I'll go first.

Lotte's playlist was started sometime in December and just...grows exponentially each day. It's scary. Most of it is Christian music (irony on hearing things and trusting the unseen and so on), Musicals, and 80's pop. There's a scary amount of Elisa, Emilie Autumn, and Andrew Lloyd Webber on the list though. The latter makes her way pout.

Luther is one of those rare characters of mine that does alright with silence. However, I tend to grab the Les Mis songs that have him in it, action soundtracks (The Lights, Motors, Action theme from the show of the same name at WDW is extremely Luther.), and the stray Alternative song.

Joss was mainly inspired by listening to Telephone by Lady Gaga on repeat. With some Dance in the Dark and Monster thrown in. I tend to listen to mainstream things for her, as they tend to fit her - though I find it amusing "The Fear" by Lily Allen describes her best.

Xavier has a playlist that's growing at a rate that's competition to Lotte's. O_O The Count of Monte Cristo musical soundtrack and 30 Seconds to Mars are the usual things. The Dave Matthews Band, Police, and U2 also are fitting >_> As is the stray Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco song.

Sheila's music is really what she listens to - things that have very tribal beats or are Disney related. Phil Collin's music for Brother Bear and Tarzan, Elton John's music for Aida and The Lion King, djembe drumming, and STOMP are what's usually fitting.

Joss and Lady Gaga makes a lot of sense. >___> And I don't even know that much Gaga.

...poor Lotte, she just can't escape the ALW.

She does obsessed with being noticed, huge publicity stunts, and a possible hidden genius quite well. While making stupid decisions all the while. (I really didn't before I started writing Joss, tbh.)

No, considering the fact that I write musical-version of the characters elsewhere. My headspace is scary.

Nick is actually my boy who doesn't need a lot of music. The quiet actually helps. Though sometimes I use Pink Floyd "The Wall" a lot for Nicky.

Illy actually has her own playlist in my Itunes. Hers, though, is fucking HUGE. Illy's got a lot of female singers on there or female fronted bands, beyond that it's a lot of dark music. Alkaline Trio, Thursday, Amanda Palmer and Dresden Dolls both, Tori Amos, Siouxsie Sioux, The Cure, Birthday Massacre, LOTS of Garbage, some Hole, Placebo, Poe, The Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins.

Devin features a lot of loud loud loud. I listen to like, Dragonforce. Then in the middle of it there's kitshy shit and internet meme songs.

Bernadette wasn't someone I could easily find music for, mostly because I felt there wasn't a lot that suited her. Most empowered-women songs I felt were either too poppish and not refined enough, since she is a Classy Lady, and most bitter-woman songs had the same problem. She does not loudly vent her anger to the clouds, she subtly plots revenge. In fact, I only have ONE song to write with her, and it's an instrumental piano piece that I close simply because it goes along with a movie that features a large European manor.

Parker surprisingly needed VERY little music for writing, but I liked having it on in the background anyways. Stuff from the Les Miserables soundtrack was a given, and finding other music from him was fairly easy. Not many songs dealing with love and sex, since he's not interested, but punk'ish ones or songs about making change are easy to come by.

You know what's weird? Neither of my characters have playlists/songs/etc. :-\ There's usually music on when I write posts and such, but it's just my usual background iTunes shuffle. It's probably because I don't really make playlists for my own purposes... I just never got into it. I just put stuff on shuffle and skip the things I'm not in the mood for.

...that's probably why I find the music memes the hardest to participate in. But, like, when someone says "ooh! pick a song for this character!" my brain goes "...wait. what?" And I feel bad, but it's like a weird disconnect for me.

I'M NOT IGNORING THE MEMES, I PROMISE! :-D

I am the same way, actually. I can't really pick out a collection of songs for a character off the top of my head. Like if I hear one and it reminds me of them, then that's cool, but it's not something I actively...seek out. Does this make sense? Probably not. :D

That definitely does. I find that most things I listen to go "OH THIS REMINDS ME OF A IN XYZ SITUATION".

I am lame.

I'm always interested to hear about other people's writing processes :3 Way back when I didn't RP and just...was doing original writing and fanfiction I had a playlist of just "Writing Music" which was about 80% of what I owned. Needless to say I wasn't very creative with naming.

What I find though, as I'm strongly influenced by what I hear, is that the music I listen to tends to affect the tone of what I'm writing. If I write a fight scene and a Disney song comes on? It tends to end in crack and so on.

Okay, I don't so much have playlists for my characters... instead, they have their own Pandora stations. Because I'm that much of a dork.

Even though it's really not at all what she listens to (which, to be honest, is just whatever is on the radio), for Sherri I have a Pandora station that's mostly... yeah I'm not really sure how to describe it. 90s rock? The song that's the basis for that station is Barenaked Ladies' "What A Good Boy."

Theo has a station that's honestly what I listen to a lot of the time anyway; lots of They Might Be Giants, Modest Mouse, Oingo Boingo, and if Pandora had more of it there'd probably be a tiny bit of nerdcore thrown in, even if only ZeaLouS1's "Battle Stance" for the beat.

Actually, Moana doesn't have a station, because the kind of music that I'd use for her actually puts me to sleep. If I created one, there'd be lots of ambiance music - ocean sounds, soothing instrumentals. She'd probably enjoy Sheila's more tribal and djembe drumming music blasting, though, if only she lived low enough in the building to hear it.

DUDE I MAKE PANDORA STATIONS TOO

Not for everyone just...well I've only done it for three of my characters. (And two of them got multiple stations.) Funnily enough, these three are my "strongest" or for me, most memorable. People have probably heard me talk about Iffy (Iphigenia) and Boreas - they both got stations and one of my Bellum kids does. The latter two have 2-4 stations each that I tend to mix up or switch between.

Helena’s playlist is huge and random but off the top of my head it has SO MUCH BILLY JOEL. OMG. Only the Good Die Young and A Matter of Trust are played the most but sometimes seems like his entire discography's on there. She likes to clean house (dance around while cleaning, let's be honest) to 80s and classic rock, so there's a lot of it on there. Layla’s on there twice (unplugged and not). There's some Pipettes, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Pink Martini, Rilo Kiley, Bruce Springsteen as well. LOL It all sounds so random but the particular song choices make sense, I swear.

Stefan usually starts out with Hall and Oates’ You Make My Dreams (thanks a lot 500 Days of Summer) and then I just hit Genius, because I’m lazy. XD

*raises hand* When I had Derek, his playlist had pretty much every single Fall Out Boy song ever on it. Regardless of how much it fit or not. It had the right feel. Sometimes one artist tends to override things.
