Lords of the Ring and Legends of Zelda.
It's said that most people who like/love The Lords of the Ring always Like or Love legends of Zelda.

I found that to be true. I only watched The Lords of the Ring because in a way it did remind me of Zelda. Then I got to love LOTR but not as much as LOZ.

There is (obviously) major inspiration from Lord of the Rings in Zelda. Gannondorf from Gandalf, Ganon looks like that... Thingy that almost killed Gandalf in the big fiery pit place... Moria, I think. Ah, I forget.

I don't really think there is such obvious inspiration in Zelda from LotR. I think the only similarity in the two is that they are both fantasy worlds. I mean Tolkien may be the go-to guy for fantasy, but I would think of him as impacting more in the European/western world than in Asia (not sure about that though). Certainly, though, Gannondorf has nothing to do with Gandalf . . . they have nothing in common aside from a few common letters in their names.

(This is just kind of an all around comment, not only to alkalphoe, btw.)

I do love both LotR and LoZ. I think they are both awesome, and I think the reason that most LoZ fans are LotR fans as well is just because someone who loves either of those things would have to be into medieval-type fantasy.

Oh yeah, I just remembered something. Ocarina of time came out before The Fellowship of the Ring movie, so Ganon could not possibly look like the Balrog in Moria by any other means than coincidence. Remember, up until 2001 Lord of the Rings was just literature (aside from a few cartoon movies, that is). So any visual similarities could only be from the very unlikely possibility that Peter Jackson got inspiration from Zelda or complete coincidence.

I think Zelda probably finds its roots more in Japanese Anime if anywhere; there are plenty of anime people with pointy ears and such.

I didn't really like Lord of the Rings that much, but I did like Zelda. I guess some things COULD be based off of Tolkien. Much of his literary archetypes are used over and over again, like the quest archetype and euchaotic elements and stuff like that! xD
