The position of Roger's kitchen meant that when he did the dishes, Roger could see Arran's front door. There were a lot of benefits of living across the road from his best friend, but being able to see Arran's house was more of a fact than a benefit, Roger felt. It did also feel almost stakerish, or it did rather that evening, because Roger had watched Arran leave - possibly to the shop because he'd had a bag - and then less than three minutes later, Gemma had apparated outside the house and was currently knocking at the door, which Roger knew wasn't going to be answered, unless Rock had learned to work doors, which Roger suspected the fluffy ball was unlikely to ever do.
Shutting of the tap, Roger walked to the front door, calling out to Gemma from across the road. "Arran's just gone," he told the woman. "But I think he's only gone to the shop, if you want to come in for a cup of tea?" Roger offered, since it seemed pointless to make Gemma wait around Arran's house for him to return, even if the weather was nice. If nothing else, Roger could offer Gemma a drink whilst she waited for her brother to return. Once she'd made the very short walk to Roger's house, he gave her a smile. "How are you, Gem? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever." Which wasn't technically true because Roger had seen her at the go-karting thing Arran had organise but they hadn't really had a chance to chat then.
