On Saturday morning when Daphne had arrived at Chloe’s she’d already had packed all the equipment and it took them very little time to apparate and then walk to the caves Chloe had picked. She’d given Daphne overalls to put over her clothes, since despite Daphne already wearing comfortable clothes, caving-specific attire was hardly going to go amiss. “They’re easy caves,” she informed Daphne. “Sort of beginner version. Completely explored, got signs throughout,” Chloe explained handing Daphne a helmet. “And we get monitored going in, got walkie talkies in case we get lost,” she said tapping her finger against the radio. “It is dark and damp down there, but it’s not very dangerous.” When Chloe took Arran to do things, she rarely bothered explaining the safety of them, mostly because Arran seemed stupid enough to just accept that Chloe was going to ensure he was safe (which she did but Chloe also thought that other people might be more cautious).
Once they were ready and registered as entering, Chloe led them through the entrance which was high enough for a while for them to just walk. Chloe had been to the caves before, but that didn’t necessarily mean she didn’t need the map they’d been handed. There was a central point that she wanted to get to, but the way they got there had plenty of choice. “Let’s go this way,” she decided, leading them through a smaller cave before they needed to get down on their knees to crawl through. “I like caving,” Chloe informed Daphne as they went. “It can be dangerous, though,” she commented before giving Daphne a look. “Not this cave, this is fine. But places that haven’t been explored, those are both the most fun and the most dangerous. Well, those and underwater caving.” Which was amazing but also basically required people to have no sense of self-preservation.
