Max closed his journal with a small sigh. He hadn't forgotten it was Mothering Sunday tomorrow, but he hadn't needed the reminder. It had been over twenty years since Max had needed to celebrate the day, and yet he could never quite escape it. Leaving his journal, and two sleeping kittens, Max tracked Siobhan down to the living room sitting in a patch of sun like she might have been a cat herself in a past life. Max joined her, pressing a kiss to her temple. "What are we doing tomorrow?" he asked. He knew Siobhan would spend the morning with her family, as she always had. In the afternoon, they would do something together. Max staunchly insisted he didn't need his wife with him to get through the day, but she always took it upon herself to do something nice with him anyway. Something nice where they wouldn't be inundated by families, of course.
"There's a place on the Thames where we could rent out a boat for the afternoon," Max offered. He always believed in being prepared with suggestions of his own, rather than relying on Siobhan to do all the work. "Take it up away from London with a picnic." It would ensure they didn't have to see anyone they didn't invite, and the boat Max had in mind only allowed for four guests.
