QUIDDITCH IN PERIL?
Evelyn White-Wood
Perhaps with the speedy rise of the Chudley Cannons in the League, this should have been something we expected. Two days ago, the Department of Magical Games and Sports announced that due to a campaign started by fans, they feel the need to introduce performance enhancing drug testing across the League.
Mr Chissick Chisholm, the Acting Head of DMGS, noted that currently the drug testing is voluntary. This, however, we expect will change rather quickly if any tests come back as positive for banned substances.
With drug testing a regular feature in Muggle sports, we do wonder why it is only now that a similar, and not yet compulsory, introduction has had to wait so long for the BIQL?
It is certainly going to be interesting to see how Cannons do in the tests (on the presumption that they voluntarily take them). Is this something caused by jealousy? Or do we really need to consider the rapid speed with which the Cannons have moved through the League as suspicious? And do teams really have a choice at this point? Not taking the tests seems as suspicious as failing them.
