Adrian moving in with her had been an idea they'd been throwing back and forth for a couple months now but it hadn't actually come to fruition until recently. It was having Arran help her with moving all of the Cannons gear out of the guest room that had prompted her to finally bring it up with Adrian again. And today was finally when the last of Adrian's things would be brought over from his place. Not that Gemma was being allowed to do much beyond supervising and carrying the much lighter boxes, even after having pointed out she could've used magic to put feather-light charms on the heavier of the boxes. Gemma was currently in the kitchen fixing up some snacks and drinks for them to have once Adrian was finished with the next couple of boxes. When she reached for the plate and glasses, preparing to take them to him, she paused glancing down at her tummy in wonder. After a moment she shook her head, putting the fleeting feeling down to the prospect of food to eat. Grabbing the plate and glasses she headed from the kitchen and headed to the living room, where she promptly set them down on a coffee table the moment she felt that strange fluttering again. It took a second but finally it registered in her mind that maybe, just maybe, the strange feeling was actually the baby moving about. After all she remembered from a couple of the books that'd she'd been reading that they mentioned that it often happened around the eighteenth week of pregnancy. A small chuckle escaped her lips and she started to smile as her hand went to her tummy in wonder. "Adrian," she called out, her tone sounding excited. "Could you come here a second, please?" -- Moving in with Gemma had been in the works since they'd found out about the pregnancy. It was a large step for Adrian. As much planning as he'd always done, he'd never gotten to the point in a relationship where babies and cohabiting were a possibility, let alone a reality. Yet, here he was moving the last few of his boxes of things into Gemma's house to start their lives together with their soon-to-be born child. It was exciting. And terrifying. Adrian thought it was equal parts of both, but he did his best to concentrate more on the exciting part than the terrifying side. He had just put another box down when Gemma called out to him. She didn't sound upset, so he came into the room without any twinge of worry. Tilting his head slightly as he caught sight of her, he arched a brow. "What's up, Geebee? Everything alright?" -- If Gemma had had any idea of Adrian's thoughts she would've agreed that it was definitely equal parts exciting and terrifying. Even now there was part of her that was just a little wary about finally sharing a space that had been just her's for so long. Though she was trying to focus on being more positive about the move and ignoring the other side of things. Because focusing on the bad wasn't going to help either of them. "Mhmm," she mumbled distractedly. The move was promptly forgotten about as she focused more on that strange feeling and how surprisingly happy it made her feel. "Everything's fine. I... I've just felt the baby moving," she added, looking up and smiling at Adrian. "At least I think it's the baby moving." -- All of the terrifying bits disappeared straight away when Gemma talked about the baby. Adrian lit up, grinning so wide that the smile split his face almost in two. "Have you?" he asked, stepping closer to her. From what he read in the books, he didn't think that he'd be able to feel their child move just yet, but knowing that she could was exciting. Reaching out, he gently rested his hand against her stomach just in case. "Is the baby moving now?" he asked her. If it was, he couldn't really feel it, but just knowing that there was a fluttering child moving about was fabulous. It made the entire pregnancy that much more real. "What does it feel like?" he asked her, curious for her answer. The books all gave a vague explanation, but he wanted Gemma's answer. -- "I thought it was just my stomach at the prospect of getting to eat," she replied, gesturing to the snacks she'd brought out. "But then it happened again and... Oh, I don't know for sure but I think it really was the baby." Gemma thought she ought to feel more certain but the movement felt so vague at the time that it was hard for her to tell for sure. She smiled as Adrian rested his hand against her belly; Though chances were slim that Adrian would be able to feel the baby move she so wanted for him to be able to. "Not right now, no," she said with a sigh, a little disappointed that they couldn't see if there was a chance he could feel the movement. "Kind of like a fluttering feeling. It wasn't terribly strong which is why I thought it was something else at first," she replied. Gemma gave another sigh. "I wish you were able to feel it as well. Maybe it'll move again soon?" -- Adrian didn't feel anything beneath the press of his palm to Gemma's stomach, but he was alright with being patient. "I'm sure I'll feel it soon enough," he told her. "And then be obsessed with touching your stomach," he smirked. Stepping in a little closer, he pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Just think, before long, the little one will be kicking up a storm and you won't be so excited about the moving about because the baby'll be kicking you in the ribs," he teased. Still, it was exciting now. Their child was moving about. Alive and well and becoming a little person more and more each day. -- "Oh, I don't doubt you will be," she said with a chuckle. Gemma felt like touching her stomach even now and the movements, when they did happen, were hardly that noticeable. She gave a snort when he started teasing her about the kicking starting soon enough. "Ha ha. Just because you're the one whose ribs aren't going to be kicked doesn't mean you should tease," she said, poking her finger against his chest playfully. "Besides you're going to have to listen to my complaining when baby does start kicking." Gemma had been feeling increasingly better about the pregnancy and now... well, now she felt like she thought she ought to have felt when first finding out: excited. "Do you know I nearly felt like running to tell you when I felt it move, because I felt excited," she told him, wanting him to know she really did feel that way. "Of course, I realised it probably wasn't a good idea to run whilst carrying a plate and glasses." -- Her playful poking made Adrian laugh. "I'll try to not tease you too much." Kissing her forehead again, her words made him smile gently. It was sweet that she was so excited to tell him about the moving that she'd felt. Her excitement to include him in the aspects of her pregnancy made him all the more happy about the move and about their relationship. As frightening and unplanned as it had been, Adrian felt that it was doing well. "I'm glad you didn't run with the plate and glasses," he told her. "Which reminds me that you should probably eat," he said, leading her toward a seat so she could do just that. "And rest for a bit." Adrian had, of course, fussed a great deal over Gemma. Not wanting her to overwork herself or do anything too strenuous, he had done his best to not pester her too much about it. Gentle with his suggestions. -- Gemma smiled warmly and stole a quick kiss from Adrian. Though there would probably be moments where she felt nervous or worried again she was glad that for the time being she actually felt properly excited for once, and she was more than happy at trying to make Adrian feel included. She shook her head but, knowing Adrian only meant well, allowed herself to be guided to a seat. "Fine, but only if you do as well," she said as she sat down, giving him a look and pointing at the chair near her's. "You've been doing far more work than I have." -- If sitting and having a rest would accomplish getting Gemma to be agreeable to doing the same, Adrian had no qualms. "Alright," he said, moving to settle into the chair that she pointed to. Once he'd sat, he shifted to get more comfortable. "Well, I would hope so. Can't have you carrying about massive boxes of my things," he pointed out. Even if Gemma weren't pregnant, he would have been doing the lion's share of things simply because that was what he felt he should be doing. "We're nearly done with the moving bit anyway," he pointed out. "Hard to believe. It went rather quickly, didn't it?" -- "Even though I have a wand and know how to cast feather-light charms?" she asked, arching her brow and smirking just a little. "I just want to feel like I'm actually helping rather than just doing the bare minimum or just standing about." It was unfortunately something that would likely keep coming up until she'd had the baby. Hardly surprising considering she'd been a rather active person all her life that having to slow down and take it easy for a while tended to rub at times. "It did," she agreed. "I honestly thought it would take us longer. Though I suppose it helped you were only four doors down, and not y'know halfway across the country or something." -- "Even then," he said, giving her a pointed look. "And you are helping," he added. "You're growing an entire human being right now. That's plenty of work for one person without moving boxes about." Reaching out to gently give her knee a squeeze, Adrian offered a gentle smile. "There'll be plenty of heavy lifting for you once the baby is here, remember?" he asked. "Rest up now because you'll be missing those moments of reprieve." He intended to help, of course, but he was certain that Gemma would do a great deal of carrying the baby about. He laughed at the mention of the closeness of their homes. "It's going to be different not going down to the old place," he admitted. "Shall we wager how many times I end up trying to walk in that door when I'm heading home?" -- Gemma didn't think it was particularly helpful since she was pregnant whether she was lifting boxes or not. It wasn't as if she tired that easily at the moment either. Still she knew Adrian was only concerned for her and the baby, and it was this that meant she was trying not to be so put out by it. "Yes, but that's an entirely different kind of lifting, and it's not exactly heavy," she responded, reaching over to pick up one of the glasses and taking a sip of the juice. Gemma didn't doubt that there would be tiring moments carrying the baby about; though she imagined it'd be somewhat more enjoyable than lifting boxes. "Though I think you might have a point about savouring these restful moments while they last." "Oh no, no wagers. I've no doubt you'll manage to do just that a few times or more," she said with a laugh. Gemma just hoped he wouldn't miss having his own place too much. -- "Well, not at first," he smirked. "I think carrying a baby, like any object of similar size, can be tiring once you've done it at length." A small object may not seem to be all that heavy when you first pick it up, but anything carried for a considerable amount of time could feel heavier by the moment. He was pleased that she seemed a bit more pleased with her restful moments and it made him grin. "I think I'm very much going to be much happier coming home to here," he said. "A much better view than at my place, certainly." His eyes fixed on her face and he smiled more broadly. "Much better company, that's for sure." -- "That's true," she said, chuckling at the fact Adrian had all but voiced what she'd been thinking. "Though I imagine you'll be doing your fair share of carrying him or her as well," she added teasingly. Not that she thought for a second she'd ever have to actually ask Adrian to hold their baby. Gemma smiled as Adrian unknowingly eased her worries about settling in to what would now be their home. She couldn't help but blush a little when he commented that the view and company were much better. "I'm glad. It'll be different but nice having you around," she said, smiling still. "So shall we finish of the food and... well, let you get back to work?" |
