NEW TEAM AND NEW SEASON
Evelyn White-Wood
It’s official, as of today, the British and Irish Qudditch League has announced its first new team in over a century! Composed of the now-ex-Kenmare Kestrels reserves Kesh Kodkods will be based in Kesh, Northern Ireland, becoming the second team from Northern Ireland in the League! Details of the construction of a new stadium to follow later in the month!
The start of the new quidditch season has also been officially announced. The first game, between Wimbourne Wasps and Montrose Magpies, will kick off the season on 19th September, preceded by the annual Quidditch gala on the 17th. There are quite a few changes to the quidditch season this year, not just the addition of a new team and new grounds!
Unlike last season, this season there will be three games a week, taking place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The BIQL has announced that the games will take place at varying times, to ensure people’s ability to come and support their favourite team. The introduction of a three-game week also means that the season will finish earlier, the last game scheduled between Wigtown Wanderers and Falmouth Falcons to be played on 26th April, 2018.
This, of course, will allow players to prepare for the much anticipated European Quidditch Championship, which is promised to kick off some time in June (dates to be confirmed). We are all excited for the new season to start and keen to see whether the Falcons will keep their place at the top of the League, whether Cannons can mimic last season’s success and whether the new Kodkods have it in them to take on experienced League teams!
