Dating wasn't really anything new to Rose, but dating Dimitri was on an entirely different level, which made getting ready for the date difficult. She should have asked Lissa to come over and help her, but it was too late now. She glanced at the clock. He would be there soon and she stood there in her bra and panties, staring at the outfits in her closet. At least she had outfits. She'd gone shopping the day after she'd gotten here. Three outfits just wouldn't cut it. Finally, she picked a dress that flattered her figure. Sexy but modest, because she knew that Dimitri didn't approve of her more revealing outfits.
Her hair wasn't a question. She knew that Dimitri loved when she wore her hair down. He'd been adament about her not cutting it once she got her molnija marks. She'd actually been rather fond of her longer hair anyway, so she didn't mind. Not to mention, the marks she now bore caused her more pain than pride. When she thought of them, she thought of Mason. Would they all represent some great loss like that?
She pushed the thoughts quickly aside. She wasn't going to get worked up now. She had to finish getting ready. She left the dress on the bed and walked over to brush her hair and make sure it fell right. That was when she heard the knock at the door. She quickly went over to the bed to get the dress on and picked up a pair of strappy sandles, working them on her feet as she walked through the apartment to the door. She ran her fingers through her hair once before opening it. At least she had already done her make-up.
Dimitri didn't know what was going on with him lately. He knew that this wasn't allowed - yet, he felt determined to make it work. And he didn't want Rose feeling as if they had done something wrong when it was the best moment in his life. Therefore, he dressed in black slacks and a black silk button-down shirt, covered by a black duster. A theme seemed to be occurring. He pulled the strands of his hair back into a bundle at the nape of his neck, tying them there with a dyed (black) leather cord.
He had nervously wound his way to her 'home' and knocked at the door. He had had the foresight to grab a single white rose and, when she opened the door, he held it out to her. "W..." was all he could manage. It was supposed to be a 'wow', but he was breathless by her beauty, as always.
Seeing Dimitri made Rose nervous, but she also started to relax. She couldn't really explain the mixed feelings, how she could feel two conflicting things at once. But Dimitri always had that effect on her. She gave him a smile as she took the rose from him. He looked good, but he always looked good. He could definitely pull off the all in black look. "I can't decide if the rose is supposed to be ironic or not," she said finally. "But thank you."
She was still trying to wrap her mind around all of this. The date. Their night together. They had agreed nothing would ever happen between them, but it had been a disappointment on her part. Sleeping together, while confusing, had been incredible. It was everything her first time should have been. She didn't regret it and wouldn't take it back for anything, but after that, it would make it really hard to go back to pretending there was nothing there. But maybe that wasn't what he wanted. Not if he was taking her on a date. "You look nice," she added. "Even with the duster." Joking with him was helping her relax a little more. This was Dimitri. She shouldn't be nervous.
Dimitri gave Rose one of his rare, full smiles. "And you, Roza, are so beautiful," he said, taking her hand and twirling her around. His expression turned serious, his hand still holding hers loosely. "I am sorry it took me so long to speak with you. I shouldn't have waited," he apologized, casting his eyes downward. He was a coward, as he knew he wouldn't be able to ever go back now. Rose was everything to him. And he loved her. He would never turn his back on her again.
Rose loved when Dimitri smiled, really smiled. It was rare, but when he did it was usually for her and it only added to his already handsome features. She let him twirl her, an electricity running through her from where their hands touched. The way she felt around Dimitri was completely unmatched by anyone else. It seemed unfair that the one person who could make her feel this way was her teacher and her best friend's guardian. But if he was willing to ignore that for now, she could too. After all, he had far more self-control than she did. If it was too much for him, there was no doubt it was too much for her. She frowned at his apology. She was just as guilty as he was. She hadn't known what to say, and she'd been afraid of what he would say. "I'm sorry too," she told him honestly. "I thought that not talking to you would prolong the disappointment." She'd been so sure he would stand strong on the nothing happening policy. Even after something amazing happened.
Dimitri's eyes shot up and searched hers. "Disappointment? Rose... don't you know?" he asked, taking a step forward. His free hand cuped her cheek, tilting her head up to meet his. "There is no going back for me now. I... need you," he confessed softly.
Rose looked into his eyes as he tilted her head. His words caught her by surpise and she merely stood still. It took a lot to render Rose Hathaway speechless, but Dimitri had managed it in three simple words. He needed her? She knew that he felt for her. She'd gotten it out of him during one of their practice sessions, but in the same breath that he admitted his feelings, he told her they could never happen. And the sex... well that had definitely been caused by undeniable feelings on both their parts. But she didn't know he needed her. She didn't know what to say.
