Rose Hathaway was undeniably in love with Dimitri Belikov. She had been for a while. Trainings had been difficult to begin with because her imagination would run wild, but ever since Victor's lust charm, it had been worse. To have kissed Dimitri, almost given up her virginity to him, made everything all that more real. More unavoidable. Even to the point that she had managed to force his feelings out of him. But once that discussion took place, the responsible discussion accompanied it. They could never be together because it would endanger Lissa.
That didn't make it any easier. She loved him, and once she graduated, she would be working with him to protect Lissa and she could never have him. It was hard. Rose didn't have a lot of self-control, she never had. Her control completely went out the window when she had been consumed by the darkness that took over Lissa. And she'd slept with him. It had been two nights ago now, and her feelings were as jumbled as when it had first happened. Sex was supposed to make things better, right? Then why was this harder?
She walked along the beach, working harder to keep herself alert this time. Lissa was here now, not with her at the current time, but she would have to start getting back on guard. Even if Dimitri was Lissa's real guardian at this point, Rose was determined to take responsibility. He knew what protecting Lissa meant to her, and now that the darkness was gone, Rose felt that she could convince Dimitri. Especially since it made more sense for Rose to move into a different apartment with Lissa than for Dimitri to do so. Though the part of Rose that had slept with Dimitri wanted to entertain thoughts of all of them sharing an apartment. No, that would be wrong.
She let out a soft sigh as she stopped to look out over the water. She was so far from the Academy, and she should be happy, but Dimitri would have never slept with her at the Academy. Maybe it would have been for the better if it hadn't happened. Those thoughts left her mind as she started to feel a nausea come over her. Rose never got sick. As a dhampir, she had an incredible immune system. What was going on? She placed a hand on her stomach, trying to figure out how to quell the nausea.
