"Elijah," Contessa said softly. "I'm so sorry." Hearing that she was going to die in 300 years was bad enough, but he had to live through losing their entire family. She gazed up at him, her eyes studying his features. It was nice to actually see him displaying an expression regarding her death--the deaths of every relative he had. She could now see why he had changed so much. It had nothing to do with his opinion of her, he had lost so much.
She spontaneously flung her arms around him, to let him know that she would be there for him as long as she could be. In time, she was sure that they would both be returned to their real lives, and his would be without her. But one thing she didn't understand. "Both Claire and Amorisa said that they were from 2011 like you," she started cautiously. "When did they die?"
She understood now why Elijah was still, after so many years, set on the ritual still happening. He wanted Niklaus dead for all of the suffering he had caused Elijah, and of course he would be the weakest during the transformation. She hadn't even considered that. But Tessa had never really been out to kill him, either. She had just wanted to stop the ritual from happening. Now that she knew that she--and Amorisa--had been killed, it was only fair. "Then I will support the ritual," she told Elijah. "But only if you're sure he will be killed in the process."
