Katherine loved the way he looked down at her, her stomach giving a little happy squirm at the attention. Why couldn't her Damon still love her like this? Why had he fallen in love with that silly little girl? She'd come back too late. But she wasn't going to make that mistake again. Not here.
"That sounds wonderful, Damon," she said, thinking back to when she first arrived at Veritas and Damon and Stefan had taken it in turns to show her around the estate. It hadn't taken her long to fall for Damon, it was almost at once, and within only a couple of weeks she had told him what she was. That acceptance, from the man she loved, had meant everything to her. She couldn't deny, it hurt a little to hear this Damon say he no longer wanted to be a vampire - to live the life they'd planned together. "I'm looking forward to seeing the park," she told him, her voice almost a conspiratorial whisper. "It will remind me of the old days when I still had your heart."
