His lips curved up a little in response to her smile. It wasn't quite a smile back, but it would have to do.
Draco shook his head. Was it better to lie? Bellatrix had made him watch as she tortured Hermione and carved 'Mudblood' into her arm with the dagger. Should he have told her about it? It wouldn't make things any better, or make it easier when she had to live through it later. Being the coward he was, he couldn't bring himself to tell her right now. Maybe if they talked again later...
This was the most conflicted he'd felt in a while. Hermione was nice. The scary part was he could see himself being friends with her eventually. Now he was beginning to see through all the years of brainwashing he had received from his parents.
"Look," he said after a deep breath. "I'm... don't worry about all the times I've called you a Mudblood. Just forget that, will you?" Now he knew they had to finish their talk before he said anything else that went against who he had been all his life. "Did you want to know anything else?"
