Caroline wasn't sure how smart this was. She was dating Matt and confused by Damon. She had been in the same position before Tyler left town. She'd been confused by Matt and Tyler, now she was confused by Matt and Damon. What if the confusion with Tyler came back when she saw him? She couldn't afford to add to the confusion that was already there. But she had promised him she would help him and she wasn't going to back down on that. At least this time he was stuck here, he couldn't just decide to leave whenever he wanted.
She'd been sitting in her room while talking to Tyler. After telling him that she would come over, she closed her laptop and her eyes fell on the black rose on her nightstand. She had put it in a vase upon receiving it and left the note Damon had attached to it next to it. The note and everything Damon had said to her recently, actually, had been so unlike the Damon she remembered. But what if Bonnie was right? What if he was just trying a new way of messing with her mind now that he couldn't compel her?
She pushed those thoughts from her head as she walked down the hall--they were on the same floor--from her apartment to his. When she reached the door at the end of the hall, she paused outside the door before knocking. Her confused thoughts left her to continue questioning whether or not she should be doing this. It wasn't as though she had standing plans, though. She'd told Damon that she needed time to think. And it wasn't like they were together. She didn't even know that she wanted to go back to that. Their relationship had been anything but healthy, after all.
She finally raised her hand and knocked once, weakly on the door before pausing and taking a breath. She gave the door a couple more knocks, more confident ones.
