Who: Braden and Zara
What: Love Potion Mayhem
Where: Great Hall
When: Just after breakfast
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

It had happened so innocently at first. With the first sip of his pumpkin juice, Zara Flint crept into his head. Flattening out the front page of the Daily Prophet, he remembered how she'd looked that night at the ball, in that dress, simple but elegant. A small smile formed at the thought.

He raised his gaze to look across the great hall to the Slytherin table, and was taken aback by what he saw. Zara looked positively... radiant. She had an ethereal glow to her, and the mere sight of her sent his heart rate skyrocketing. Blatantly staring at her now, he watched her laugh, the corners of her eyes crinkling slightly in amusement. Zara Flint was, simply put, a goddess among peons at the Slytherin table. It was only when a sleepy looking fifth year bumped into him and apologized wearily that he realized he hadn't been breathing, and his lungs gratefully sucked in a breath of air.

He felt a strange, almost physically forceful pull to go over and sit with her, though he restrained himself from doing so; he supposed it wouldn't be appreciated by a large majority of the Slytherin table if he stopped by for a visit. So he restrained himself, forcing himself to eat the food before him, though he could hardly focus on what he was doing. When he did manage to force his gaze away from her, it was only for a brief time before his eyes snapped back to her figure. Her beauty was overwhelming. Poor Braden couldn't help but stare in a manner quite unlike his usually gentlemanly one.

Zara was sitting with a few of her fellow 6th years from her house. One of them was telling her a silly story that actually managed to get her to laugh. She did really know why but she glanced over at the Gryffindor table and smiled at Braden. It wasn't uncommon for her to smile at him when he was at a different table, and it wasn't uncommon for her to see him looking at her, she always figured it was just to get her attention.

She went back to talking to her table, but she couldn't help but notice that he kept looking at her, he wasn't waving, or making it clear that he wanted to talk to her. It was sort of... odd. Her first thought was that maybe he was lost in thought and just looking into space and she happened to be in his line of sight, or maybe something was wrong and he didn't want to be rude.

She looked back to her food finishing up the last few bites trying not to look over towards Braden to see if he was still looking at her. She pushed her hair behind her ear as someone down the table said her name, her youngest brother Ian. She nodded speaking to her brother for a moment.

But Braden was still watching her, and his resolve was wearing thin. He forced another fork full of food down his throat, before giving up entirely and heading over to her, walking perhaps more quickly than he would have in any other situation.

Sliding down into the seat next to her, he pointedly ignored the eyes of every other Slytherin at the table. "Hi Zara," he greeted, briefly overwhelmed at being so close to her. She was even more beautiful up close. He glanced down at her plate, making a note of it. If Zara had eaten it, it was sure to be the best item on the menu. "How are you?"

Zara was a little bit surprised to find Braden sitting next to her at the Slytherin table. It wasn't a secret that he was one of Zara's friends, or that Zara had friends in Slytherin. It was just really shocking to see him sit down next to her during breakfast.... And to her it felt like he'd come out of no where.

"Hi Braden." She said with a small polite smile. She was just a little taken back. "I'm doing well." She said tilting her head watching him. Zara could see the shocked look on her youngest brothers face, not to mention that everyone else was watching them. Zara was surprised no one said anything rude right away.

"How are you?" She added.

Braden didn't even notice the eyes upon him, and even if he did, he probably would've just brushed them off. As it was, he was entirely too focused on Zara to pay much attention to anything else.

Her voice was like music to his ears, and he grinned a bit goofily as she addressed him. Zara Flint, goddess, was talking to him. "Great," he told her. "Just thought I'd stop by for a chat." A chat wasn't the right word for it, though. Every word that fell from Zara's lips had some sort of deeper meaning to it. It was as if she spoke in poetry.

"You look beautiful this morning," he added, smiling.

"Just top by for a chat. Okay." She said giving him a bit of a worried look. She was fine talking to him, but just randomly coming and sitting at the Slytherin table? That was a little bit odd to her.

She blinked at his next comment, she couldn't help but blush. "Thank you." She said with a half smile.

Zara lifted her hand up to feel his forehead, she was starting to get worried that something was wrong with him. "Are you okay?" She asked, sure he had said he was great, but he wasn't acting exactly normal.

Braden watched her cheeks darken at his comment, and his grin widened. That blush was more lovely than roses in bloom.

The Gryffindor almost jumped at the jolt of electricity he felt as she placed her hand upon his forehead. If he hadn't been warm before, he certainly was burning up now, his heart beating erratically. No one had ever had this sort of effect on him before, and he had to admit he liked it. "I'm fine," he told her, hoping that wouldn't make her remove her hand.

Zara let her hand drop from his head. "You feel kind of warm, nothing to have a fit about, but maybe you should get it checked out. I can walk up with you if you want." She said softly.

Zara was really worried about him, he was acting odd and he was starting to scare her a little, all she wanted was for him to be okay, and he wasn't acting okay.

It took a great deal of effort not to frown when Zara's touch was removed from his forehead. There was still a faint buzzing left over from the contact, but he felt distinctly colder without it.

"Nah, I'm fine," he assured her. "Never felt better, actually." And it was true. It was like he was wandering around on cloud nine. He had a bounce in his step, and that stupid smile on his face that no one would be able to pry into a frown. "Did I mention how lovely you look today? Did you do something different with your hair?"

"Braden, what is going on?" She asked him with a worried, confused, nearly nervous look. She put her hand on his shoulder.

"Come on, I think you need to go to the Hospital wing." He wasn't acting like himself, and she didn't really know what to do. It was one thing telling her she looked pretty at the ball, another when he mentioned it more than once at breakfast on a normal day.

Braden's unbreakable smile faded slightly at her insistence. He hardly even felt the jolt of her touching him once more as he took in the concern upon her features. She was worried about him. The last thing he wanted was to see her upset.

"Er- no. I'll just go up to my dorm for a while," he muttered, easing away from her touch. "Lay down or... something." He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly as he stood. "I'll see you in class, I guess."

Zara watched him carefully... "Braden." She said softly standing up as well. "Are you sure? Do you want me to walk you back?" Zara had no idea what was wrong with him, but one thing was for sure, she had no idea what was wrong with him.

She was a little confused by the way he was acting as well, he wasn't acting like himself at all. She just wanted to make sure that he was okay.

"Nah," he assured her, not wanting to have to cope with her worried gaze upon him the entire way up to Gryffindor tower. He would have liked to have spent more time with her, but such was life. "I'll be fine, Zara. Finish eating."

Stepping back from the table, he offered her a smile. "I'll see you later, okay?"

Zara gave him a worried look but nodded. "If you are sure." She said softly. She wanted to check to see if he had a temperature again, but just didn't think he'd be okay with that.

"I'll see you later, I guess."
