Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Piper and Tony
What: Talking
Where: Outside the library
When: Before rounds
Rating: TBD

When she had first started walking to meet Tony that evening, Piper hadn't been entirely worried about what it was Tony had to tell her. As she got closer to the library, however, she was in an entirely different state of mind. If it wasn't anything bad, wouldn't Tony have just told her over the journals? Why would he have asked to meet her somewhere to tell her face to face? What was so horrible that he felt uncomfortable saying in writing?

Piper had reached their meeting place before Tony and rested her back against the wall as she waited. It could be good news, right? It could've been such good news that he wanted to see her face when she reacted.

But Piper wasn't exactly leaning toward optimistic these days, and she sighed as she let herself acknowledge the situation she was in, and tried not to think too much about what was about to happen when Tony appeared.

Tony had made his way to meet Piper slowly, since he was regretting what he was going to tell her the whole way. After talking to Evan about it in a rather drunken state, Tony decided the best thing was to tell Piper what he'd heard. And then... they had to decide where they stood with all this.

But eventually his feet carried him to outside the library, and he looked up to see Piper waiting. And there was still plenty of time before rounds, so they had quite awhile to talk. "Hi," he said getting closer, trying not to look away from her.

Piper glanced up as she heard him approach, offering a smile that faltered as soon as she saw the look on her face. Any hopes that he had good news were instantly tossed out the window, and she took in a deep breath as she ran a hand nervously through her hair. "Hi," she replied weakly. The notion of small talk was horrid, so she made no efforts to beat around the bush and blurted out, "So you wanted to tell me something?"

Tony sighed when Piper seemed to want to just get right to the point. He couldn't blame her, he most of just screamed bad news. And she was probably worried, and this was just delaying... everything so he was better off telling her. "I did... I heard my Dad talking about something to Bell... your Mum while I was home for Christmas," he said biting his. "I'm sorry it's taken so long to tell you, but I just... didn't kept it to myself. I didn't want to face it till like a week ago," Tony said explaining. "They're talking about getting married. About making it official, that's they're together. That it's not just some stupid affair. She's living there, so my Dad wants her to have everything. So if they aren't planning it already... they will be soon."

Piper's stomach had already tightened at the mention of their parents, a sure sign that things were about to take a bad turn. By the time he had finished the rest of his explanation, Piper was sliding down the wall until she hit the floor, staring at nothing and unwilling to look him in the face.

They were going to make it official. That meant there was absolutely no way this was just going to blow over. She and Tony were impossible. For good. Her boyfriend was literally going to become her brother. She might vomit.

"You should have told me," she muttered. She had been snogging him! He had known and had gone right on acting as if nothing had changed! Why hadn't he said anything? Why would he lead her on like that? Was he just using her? "Why didn't you tell me?" she demanded.

Tony looked away for a moment when she demanded to know why he didn't tell her. He had hoped she wouldn't get made, but it may be unavoidable now. So he was just going to have to tell her the truth.

"I didn't even hear them talking about it till the last week I was home. They didn't know I heard them talking either," Tony said explaining. "I guess I was... just in denial myself. I didn't want to believe it," he said looking at her now. "I thought it would go away. Dad would come to his senses... but still no word of her leaving. But no official word about getting married either. So I don't know," Tony said lifting his hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes. "I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner."

It was hard to stay mad at him sometimes. He got these looks that made her feel... bitchy for yelling at him, or he'd do little gestures, like pinching the bridge of his nose that showed how stressed he was, and how little her being angry was helping, but today she pressed on.

In all honesty, she wasn't really angry at him so much as she was angry with her mother and the situation in general, but she, of course, didn't realize that.

"So I guess you're my stepbrother now," she mumbled. That was so much worse than sharing a brother. There was no avoiding that. It was in your face inescapable, relationship-ruining disaster. "I guess that's it." She picked up a scrap of parchment laying next to her, crumbled it up and tossed it bitterly to the side. "There's really nothing else to say, is there?"

"If not now, then I will be," Tony said, though he didn't exactly want to admit that. This was why he'd been in denial. Why he didn't want to tell Piper. It hurt, more than anything. He wanted to be with Piper. At least he thought he did... but now his parents had ruined everything.

"I guess not," he said when Piper asked if there was anything else for them to say. He didn't know what, if there was anything else. He could apologize, but what good would it do.
