Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Elena and Ben Goyle
What: Elena has a meltdown
Where: Slytherin common room
When: After receiving her owl
Rating: TBD

Elena didn't understand. She had been with him last night. She had been with him, and he had walked her home, and she had kissed him goodnight. He had left, and everything was fine. He had told her he loved her, and she had said it back. It had been a fun evening; she hadn't even had anything to drink because she wanted to have a good time with him.

But he had walked back to Hogsmeade. She had let him walk back by himself, and somewhere between the Slytherin common room and Hogsmeade he had been attacked. Jacob was strong. Something had hurt him, which meant it had to be something awful, and she didn't want to think about what could've done that.

It didn't help that the letter had been unbelivably vague as to his condition. Her imagination was running wild. She still remembered seeing Zara in the hospital, and the thought of him being worse than she was made her want to throw up, and if Ben didn't get downstairs soon to calm her down, it was a very likely event. She kept staring at the words, as if expecting a bright, cheerful 'JUST KIDDING' to appear, but none ever did, and her stomach gave yet another unpleasant lurch.

Ben had been sleeping most of the morning. He wasn't hungover, he hadn't even gotten drunk the night before, but he was tired. Not that Isabella had been a handful, but he had made sure that she got home safe by Aparating her home, and then walked back to Hogwarts from Hogsmeade. When the morning Owl Post came in, the letter was left on his desk, and he didn't see it until he woke up.

Normally, he wouldn't even care what had happened. What did he care about Jacob Wood? Sure, he didn't hate the guy, and he felt bad he was attacked, but they weren't best friends. The only connection he had to him was his sister. Elena. That was the real reason why he was concerned. Whether he liked it or not, Elena was dating Jacob, and apparently they were in love. He saw them the night before, Wood made her happy, and that was really all of Ben's concern.

He knew even before she asked him to come to her that she needed him. It was just a twni thing. Throwing on a teeshirt, he hurried down the stairs into the common room, finding Elena right away. He didn't even say anything at first, he just sat down next to her.

Elena felt rather than saw her brother as he sat down next to her, and she slowly turned to face him with widened eyes, the letter still in her hands. “Ben,” she breathed, feeling her eyes starting to tear up. She finally let the letter fall, not looking away from him to watch it float to the ground. “He was with me yesterday… last night. He walked me home.” Her chest hurt at the memory. “I don’t… know what to do. I don’t even know how bad it is. What if it’s… awful?”

The thought of him lying in that bed, cut up, bruised, maimed, it was enough to make the bile rise in her throat, though she willed in down with a small whimper.

Ben just didn't know what to say. He looked at her, not a hint of amusement on his face. She looked awful, and it made him feel awful. He hoped she wasn't blaming herself for this, because he knew it wasn't her fault. In fact, he felt bad. He actually felt bad. If he hadn't aparated Isabella home, he would have walked Elena back to the castle and probably made Wood just go home. And how he felt like a prick.

"I'm sure he'll be fine, El," he asid, leaning down to pick up the fallen piece of paper. She didn't need this, it was only a reminder. He crumpled it up and tossed it away into a waste basket. "It didn't say anything bad. You can Owl his siblings, can't you? His Dad?" He tried to think of the best way to keep her calm.

"Why did I make him walk me home?" she groaned, dropping her head into her hands. "I knew what had been happening lately, and I knew he'd have to walk back by himself, alone at night." First she had left Zara alone on Halloween, and now she'd forced Jacob to walk alone, and he was in the hospital, too.

"That stupid owl is so vague," she exclaimed. "I've already talked to Porter, and I'm going to see him, but Porter doesn't know how he is, either, Ben. Only the headmaster does, but apparently he's not in much of a sharing mood!"
