It was New Year's Eve and the Lakewood Shores Mall was filled with people trying to get together some last minute items for their celebrations as well as looking to return unwanted gifts they'd received at Christmas. Jericho had been to the jewelry store. Again. And he had left empty handed. Again. He wasn't sure why he was having so much trouble with this. Candi was expecting. She was nearly six months along now. Another three months or so and they were going to be parents. Another little London would be making its way into the world. And yet he couldn't quite bring himself to pick out a ring.
It wasn't a question of whether or not he cared for Candi and wanted to be with her and raise their child together. He did. All of those things. And yet the idea of getting married again, of having a wife again, was overwhelming. He was sure it had to do with all of the struggles that he and Helena had gone through and the pain that losing her had left him with, an ache that never seemed to dull, but he wanted to move beyond that, to get over it, to get on with his life.
Frowning into his cappuccino, a half eaten croissant forgotten beside the mug, Jericho's thoughts were somewhat troubled. While he wanted to believe that all of his reluctance, his hesitation, was brought on by fear, there was still a nagging voice in the back of his head that kept telling him that it was something else, something more.
