Who: Hermione and Xena.
When: Day Two Early.
What: Snack then Exploring.
Where: Fair grounds.
Rating: PG
Status: Complete.

Hermione woke up the next morning and felt peckish fighing giant spider tends to make one hungry so she decided to check out the fair grounds for some food. Looking around at all the colourful tents on her way reminded her of the Quidditch World Cup and all the tents that where set up all over the place all decked out with magic, She made a plate of random meat and veggies went to find a place to sit down and eat her lunch quickly after she was done she felt like doing some more exploring, among the tents their where offers of classes that she thought to be fun so she went to go check them out. She entered the medival cooking tent only to find out that it was occupied by goblins, not wanting to be taught by a goblin she slowly back out feeling the glares from the goblins as she hastily exited the tent. She walked down the path afraid to check out any more classes fearing they too will be taught by goblins.

Walking for a little while she stumbled upon the archery range, which currently had no occupants, she always wanted to try archery so she helped herself to a bow and some arrows then walked up to take a shot at the target, drawing back the arrow she let go and missed the target then reloaded and tried again and got the very bottom. Feeling very pleased with herself she tried once more but she heard someone behind her the sudden noise frightened her making her jump and miss the target completely, She turned around to see who this person was "Hello?"

Waking to find that the bed beside her was empty didn't really bother the warrior princess. Both she and Gabrielle had the tendency to rise before the other. Rarely did they rise at the same time. And to be honest, usually it was Xena who was awake long before the bard got up. Perhaps her "trip" yesterday had worn her out more than she thought. The only thing different about the empty bed today and the empty bed yesterday was that she didn't have a sinking feeling about it. Gabrielle was still here, she'd just gone out, probably for food.

Which was a damn good idea, come to think of it. Xena pulled herself from the strange bed and washed her face in the sink. She dressed in her leathers and made sure all her weapons were in place. She still wasn't sure about this place and its rules, and she was going to be prepared. She left her room and headed around the building until she found the barn where Argo had been stabled. Feeding and brushing the mare, Xena found solace. If there was one thing besides Gabrielle that could bring her peace, it was the menial task of taking care of her horse.

Though she would have preferred to ride Argo around the village, she knew that she could accomplish more on her own two feet and wouldn't have to worry about tying Argo up or having her wander off to gods knew where. She left the barn and walked into the center of the village where there were several tents set up. They weren't battlefield tents, but she kept her hand on her chakram nevertheless. She found food in the form of bread and butter, ale and roast pork. While she ate, she watched the people around her. Some people, especially those who were working the various booths and tents, seemed faceless. Or rather, she forgot them almost as soon as she looked away. It was unnerving, really.

Deciding that she wasn't entirely fond of faceless people, she wandered to the outer perimeter of the village and discovered sparring rings, jousting tracks and an archery range. As the archery range seemed to be the lesser occupied one, she aimed for it. There was a young girl shooting arrows at the target, though not very well. She was about to open her mouth and announce herself when the girl jumped and sent the arrow flying off into the trees. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

Now this girl, she could remember her face when she glanced away and, to Xena, that was a good sign.

Hermione took a few seconds to take the Warrior woman in, she was different from any other woman she met being bigger, more muscular well the only other woman she could think that was bigger would be Madame Maxime but she was a half giant. At first she thought she was wearing a costume to fit in with the surroundings but she looked to relaxed in it and she could see the leather was worn so this must be a outfit worn many a time. The weapons the woman carried where also a give away to the period she came from, being a sword and some strange circular blade when muggles these days preferred guns. With her appearance this woman was one Hermione would usually try to stay away from but this woman’s words where kind and she felt no harm was to come her way but was ready to draw her wand if needed. “Its ok just kind of missed my target,” she laughed

“I’m Hermione Granger nice to meet you” she smiled at the dark haired woman lowering the bow to her side and taking a few steps closer to her “I’m very new at archery, always wanted to try it and since I found my way here I figured I would, I never even thought I would manage to hit the target at all” she laughed and looked back to the arrow that was embedded in the very bottom of the target then to the forest and wondered where that arrow went “I hope you don’t mind my asking but can I see that blade I’ve never seen one like this, what’s it called? And how is it used?” Hermione could not help but look at the strange circular weapon the woman carried and was curious of how it worked, she walked over to the woman and hoped she was not asking to much by asking to hold it.

"My name is Xena. You really should have someone helping you with archery your first time. You could really hurt yourself." It was the maternal nature in Xena to give advice, even where it wasn't wanted. "I'd be happy to show you a thing or two, if you like." This Hermione seemed like a very sweet girl, although somewhat jumpy. Xena watched her approach and her hand immediately went to the chakram at her side as Hermione expressed interest in it.

"That's maybe not the best idea." She looked down at it, unhooking it from her hip and holding it up. "It's called a chakram and it's very sharp. I can show you how it's used, but I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself, so it's best if you don't handle it." The chakram was a Xena-only weapon. No one else, aside from Gabrielle, had ever been able to wield it successfully. A few had tried, but always failed to use it properly.

"Ready? Move over here just a bit." She threw the chakram the way one would throw a frisbee. It sliced through several tree branches, dropping them to the ground. And then, it ricocheted against a rock, tree trunks, sliced off the top of the archery target and returned to Xena's outstretched hand. She caught it deftly and slapped it back into the hook at her hip. Normally she wouldn't have offered such a demonstration, but Hermione seemed genuinely interested and she didn't want to be rude right off.

Hermione listened to Xena as she spoke taking heed to what she said about archery “I think I would like that actually, it would be nice to have someone who knows what their doing show me” she laughed. “Yeah I understand completely and would be perfectly fine with not touching it” she said obeying Xena moving over a bit to give her the room she wanted. Hermione was amazed as she watched Xena throw the Chakram watching it cut through the trees and ricocheted its way back to her outstretched hand, she was very clearly talented with this weapon “Wow that was amazing, I never thought it could do that, your really talented and I can see why you never wanted me to touch it”

Hermione ran up to the target and examined the damage done she liked this target just because she actually hit it so she hoped it would be lucky as Xena taught her, she drew her wand and muttered “Reparo” watching the target being magically restored to its proper state she returned to Xena’s side. “So lets get started I guess, here let me get you a bow” she pointed her wand to where the bows where stored “Accio” watching Xena’s reaction the whole time while a bow floated to them, she plucked it out the air and offered it to the warrior woman and hoped it was not a bad thing she used magic in front of her.

"Well, the bow isn't exactly my weapon of choice, but I know a thing or two about how to use one. I wouldn't mind showing you, and that way next time you try, maybe you won't shoot your eye out." Not that she had before, but she might have.

Xena watched the young woman run up to the target, take a stick out of her pocket and point it at it. It immediately repaired itself to look the way it had before Xena's chakram had sheared off the top. She'd seen a similar stick before and had to think hard for a moment before she realized why. Tonks. That bright haired witch she'd met on Mirage.

A facial shrug later, and Xena was grabbing her own bow and some arrows from a weapons rack nearby. She walked to an area several paces in front of the target and knelt, shoving the arrows into the ground, point first and then standing and readying the bow. She knocked the arrow and waited until Hermione joined her again.

"That magic comes in handy, doesn't it?" She lifted the bow, gripping the curved handle with her left hand and drawing the feathered end of the arrow back toward her ear. "Alright, ready?" She slid her icy blue gaze toward the teenager and pulled the string back as far as she could. She sighted on the target, closing one eye, and released the arrow. It didn't land exactly in the middle but on the ring outside of it. "The biggest thing you've got to watch out for, is that when you release the arrow, you have to keep your bow steady or the arrow won't go where you originally planned."

On her way back Hermione watch Xena get her bow and arrows and fixed a strand of hair as she joined her. “Yeah magic is really comes in handy” she sighed a bit of relief she was still only getting use to the fact that she no longer needed to hide the fact she was a witch around here and was glad that Xena never freaked out over a little bit of magic.

She watched the warrior woman as she drew the arrow back then sent it flying to the target almost hitting the middle but not quit but still impressive. “Yeah I’m ready” she raised her bow and drew and arrow from the leather case then loaded it drew the string back as far she could “Like this?” she relished it and tried to keep her hand steady like Xena told her. She watched the arrow as it flew to the bottom of the target a bit higher then she got the first time, she smiled “How was that?” she turned to face her teacher.

If Xena hadn't met Tonks in Mirage, she might have been a bit freaked out about the use of magic, but she'd been given enough time to get used to it. At least somewhat. It still unnerved her slightly. There were things these magic wielders could do with their wands that Xena couldn't do with brute strength, and that bothered her. She was used to getting what she wanted with her mind and her strength. All these people had to do was wave their little wand and they could do anything. Like, repair a target for instance.

Xena nodded. "That's the way." She watched Hermione release the arrow and though it was a bit better this time, it was still quite low. "Try aiming a bit higher this time. Maybe a little too high. You seem to shoot low, so the theory is that you'll hit a little closer if you aim off target. Does that make sense?" She walked around behind the teen to raise her arms and spot her while she pulled the arrow back again. "Like this." She lifted her arms a little higher and helped her pull back the arrow.

"Okay, let it go."

Hermione was quit pleased with herself hitting the target again and having Xena complement her was pretty good. “I think I understand that” She said as Xena was adjusting her, she just let her do her thing and hoped she could remember what she said later “I was never sure how far one should pull the string back thanks for showing me” she obeyed Xena and let go of the arrow

Hermione watched it fly to the target and take a spot next to Xena’s arrow “Wow I did it thank you Xena” she turned to Xena with a big smile on her face “I guess I should try it by myself now?” she tried to remember Xena’s words while she reloaded the bow and aimed higher and a bit off centre then pulled the arrow back and let go and watched the arrow as it flew into a spot to the left of the one she just shot. “I did it again Xena you really are a good teacher thanks for taking the time to show me” Hermione was beaming as she turned to the warrior woman.

Xena stood back as the arrow was let loose. It struck very close to her own arrow and she nodded her approval. She was a quick learner and Xena appreciated that. There was nothing more frustrating than a student who couldn't grasp a concept, whether it be weapons training or philosophy mattered not.

"Good job." She patted Hermione's shoulder and then stood back to watch her try it alone. She took the advice and her next arrow landed in a similar position as the last one. Xena gave her a flat lipped smile and nodded. "Nice." Xena was a good teacher, but not exactly forthcoming with the compliments. Praise was difficult for her, but it wasn't totally foreign.

"You'll be a pro in no time."

“Thanks but I don’t know about the pro part” Hermione laughed, she like the fact she was getting archery and it was pretty fun and having Xena teach her was a plus and the compliments she gave added to the good mood Hermione was in right now.

“Thanks again for showing me, I hope I never interrupted anything you where doing beforehand” it was nice of Xena to show her but Hermione never wanted to waste the warrior woman’s time if she had more important things to do besides she felt she had learned a lot from Xena’s lesson, before she came along Hermione really doubted that she would be able to hit the target again let alone being able to almost hit the center.

"You're a quick learner, it should really come pretty easily now with some practice." Xena was glad to see that the girl was enjoying the lesson. Nothing worse than a reluctant student. Not that Xena had exactly come here expecting to teach someone how to shoot.

"Nah, I didn't have anything else to do. I was just familiarizing myself with this place. It's easier to find an escape if you know the lay of the land." Xena made sure she had all her weapons attached and then pointed at the target. "Keep practicing. I'm going to keep exploring. See you around, kid."

With that, Xena walked off into the trees and disappeared after a final wave.

“Yeah I know what you mean I kind of stumbled here while exploring” Hermione looked back to the target and gave a look to her arrows smiled and turned back to Xena.

“Yes I think I’ll stay here for a bit and practise thanks again, nice meeting you Xena hope to see you again soon” Hermione waved back to Xena and watched her disappear into the trees then turned around raised the bow and loaded it.
