Torin sighed and pulled another pouch of beer from her allotment. Tomorrow would start the first round of briefings and talks with gods only know who the Confederation thought should know about the whole Silsviss thing. It would be military first, of course, but she had no doubt that there would be civilian briefings as well. And since she was apparently the only 'expert' they had on their new allies... Endless briefings when she should be with her platoon. But such was the way of the world. She rubbed absently at her jaw, still feeling sore from the installation of her new implant. Nothing quite like having your jaw cracked open to make you sore for weeks.

She finished her beer and tossed the pouch in the recycler as she stood. General Morris had oh-so-kindly told her to take the day getting settled in, but she was a combat Marine, and she certainly didn't need a full day to settle into was was essentially safe territory. But sitting in her room wasn't going to help anything. While she doubted Ventris Station had changed that much since the last time she'd been here, looking around would at least help kill the boredom. She grabbed her slate, and clipped it to her belt just in case anyone who didn't have her implant codes needed her.

She noticed something was wrong the moment she stepped outside the door. This was most definitely not Ventris station. She glanced back over her shoulder, and somehow wasn't really surprised to find the door had disappeared.

"Fuk it" she snarled, her hand drifting towards the knife in her boot. She tounged her implant, but got nothing, not even static. She wanted to be surprised. She wished she could be surprised. But this was just the kind of thing that seemed to be happening to her.

If Robin hadn't seen it happen before, he would have rubbed his eyes and pinched himself to rouse his conscious mind from the evident dream he was in. As it was, he'd seen two other people appear out of thin air in the last few days. It was still a little startling and he stopped in his tracks when he saw her. Well, he thought it was a her. He had a difficult time judging gender based only on clothing in this place. It hadn't been so difficult in his world where women only wore dresses.

He didn't recognize the curse, although he knew that it was one. He could tell she was upset at being brought here, just as everyone seemed to be and he decided it was best to approach with caution. He had his bow slung over his shoulder and his quiver of arrows strapped to his back if he felt she would present a threat. He came at her from the front so that she would be sure to see him and he wouldn't startle her into fleeing or attacking.

She didn't exactly look like the soft women of his time. From what he could see of her form, she looked lean and somewhat muscled. He raised a hand in greeting, the hand that wasn't gripping the end of his bow. "Greetings!" His voice was pleasant and unobtrusive and he still approached slowly and with a small smile on his face.

Torin had noticed the man, almost immediately, but her hind brain had registered him and human, and thus not a threat. Still, she watched carefully as he approached, not quite sure what to make of the incredibly archaic weaponry he was carrying, though it did make her wish she had her KC. Craig could joke about it all he wanted, but it was true she was more comfortable with a gun in her hands.

She started, very slightly when he spoke. She wasn't sure what she'd been expecting, but it wasn't this stranger speaking Federate. She took a moment to size him up, her eyes raking him up and down. He was about her height, and looked rather physically fit. He held his weaponry, strange as it was, with the ease of someone who knows how to use it. Strangely that comforted her slightly. He was a warrior. She could handle warriors.

She drew herself up into something roughly approximating a parade rest. "Hello" she said in her best clipped, military tone. "Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr, requesting information as to the current location."

Robin stopped his approach when the woman turned toward him and stared. He noticed the way in which she started when he spoke and he wondered if she expected him to speak something other than English. At least it appeared as if she understood him. Of course, he'd been able to speak and understand everyone else around here no matter the time or place they came from so why should she be the exception? He was several feet from her, but within speaking distance.

He looked her over about as much as she looked him over. She had a bearing about her that told him she was a fighter. Good or evil, he didn't know, but at this stage it didn't much matter. At least not until she tried to attack. From the position she took up, however, that didn't appear to be happening anytime soon. He crossed his arms over his chest, watching and listening as she rattled off her introduction and request for information. It was very formal and Robin found it somewhat amusing. But he never cracked a smile.

"I'm Robin of Locksley and you, my lady, are in the City. Where about this city is, none of us know. We have all been brought here as you have, with neither warning or explanation. I have been here from the first and the King of these lands explained that, in short, we are his prisoners." He took a breath and thought to himself that a prepared speech for others that might arrive in the future would be appropriate.

"The King is called Jareth. He made this place and he rules it. The rules being that no one may murder another and no one may leave unless gifted with the chance after defeating the labyrinth." When he spoke of the maze, he pointed toward the large walled structure that could be seen from practically anywhere within the city. "I am sure that there is a key waiting for you in the main hall." He pointed again toward the largest of the buildings and then waited for her to respond.

Torin listened to the man, filing away the information, no matter how strange it sounded. And it did sound mighty strange, though she had to admit some of that was this strange man's speech pattern. It sounded like he'd stepped out of some strange fantasy drama series.

She raised an eyebrow at the rules. Not leave unless she found this king person? She let out a short snort as she followed his gesture towards the Labyrinth. It didn't look that imposing, at least not after Big Yellow. If this "king" thought a little maze was going to stop her, then he had no idea who she was. She was not one to remain a prisoner for long.

"We're provided rooms?" she asked, with heavy sarcasm. "How generous. I suppose we're provided food and clothing as well?" She didn't wait for a reply before she started heading towards where the man had pointed.

Robin allowed a small hint of a smile to touch his lips. The woman, for he was certain now that she was indeed a woman despite the manner of her dress, was indignant. He had been, too. At first. Now, there just didn't seem a point to it. It was clear that after a week here, he was not going anywhere anytime soon. He hadn't yet challenged the Labyrinth, but he would soon. He was sure of it.

"Yes, food and clothing are also provided." He watched her head away from him and hesitated for a moment before following her. He wasn't exactly sure that he wanted to keep her company. She wasn't in the best of moods, after all. He jogged to catch up, but kept several feet of distance between them.

"If you'll allow me, I'll show you where you can find your key and journal and then I'll let you be to find your room and other things on your own." He didn't want to be where he wasn't wanted, and he was pretty sure she wanted to be alone at the moment. Who wouldn't? There needed to be time to catalogue and think about the new situation at hand.

Torin kicked herself mentally. Strange place, unknown dangers... There was no need to blow off the only possible source of information. The man wasn't a hostile, and he was a fair sight more polite than some.

"Forgive me" she said, a bit grudgingly. "I seem to have been finding myself in one crazy situation after another these days." She slowed down to let him catch up. "I would appreciate the guide."

Robin shrugged. He was used to strong women. Sort of. Marian was headstrong the way this woman was, and physically strong as well, but he had the feeling that Torin would not only whoop Marian, she'd stand on her with her arms in the air and tout her victory. The visual made Robin cringe slightly.

"Do not give it another thought. I understand how strange this is for you." And he did. She wasn't the only one who had been snatched from her home world.

He led her into the main building and, sure enough, there was a key and a journal waiting for her. He didn't like to touch what wasn't his (unless of course it was for a good cause and it meant helping someone else), so he pointed to the objects on the large front desk. "These must be yours."

He turned and leaned against the desk. "I have yet to see a map of this place, but a little exploration will tell you more than a map could, I should think. What room have you been given?"

Torin followed the man to the building, trying to size him up, both as a potential threat and as a potential ally. He moved with the unconscious economy of someone who's known battle, and he certainly wore his weaponry with the ease of long familiarity, no matter how odd it was. She was also pretty sure that in a hand to hand fight, she could probably take him. Not a danger then. She let herself relax very slightly.

When he gestured to the objects on the desk, and indicated they were hers she walked over and examined the two items, slightly puzzled. The key was plain enough. Sure magnetic and electronic locks were more secure, but humanity had never gotten completely away from pin and tumbler locks. She ignored it for the moment and gently touched the journal, as if she wasn't quite sure what is was going to do. She knew what it was of course. An artifact, a relic of human culture before slates and smart desks. A book. A real paper book. She picked it up, confused.

"What does it do?" she said, opening it up and flipping through the blank pages. While she hardly considered herself tech-dependent, she couldn't see the use for a paper book when her slate could hold far more information in a much more organized fashion.

She waved off Robin's apology about a map. She'd been recon, later she'd go out and explore, which was far better than any map. Maps could be wrong after all. Eyes and ears were slightly more reliable. At his question she picked up the key, and looked at the numbers engraved on it.
"112. Ah... A I think"

If Robin knew that she thought she could take him in hand to hand combat, he would have been mortified. Of course, it was probably true. Even Marian had nearly taken him once. But he was still a man, and had a man's pride in not being the weaker sex. Robin was better with his bow, but he could fight with a sword, too. Many a man had misjudged his skill and lost his life because of it. If Torin ever got the jump on him, he'd only lose because he'd be too shocked to defend himself.

He saw her surprise when she looked at the book. The key she hardly gave a second glance, but the book seem to intrigue her. She picked it up with such delicacy he had to wonder if they had these where she came from. But who didn't have books?

"It doesn't really do anything. You write in it. It's for your thoughts. It's also a means of communication with the rest of the city. Anything you write in there, unless you mark it private, can be read by the others." He took the book from her gently and flipped back to the beginning so that she could see what was written there. "See, here?" He pointed out the various entries and their respective comments by others. He handed it back to her.

He peered at her key and nodded to affirm her guess. "Would you like me to show you where it is?"

Torin scanned the writing, her eyes widening as she realized there were indeed back and forth conversations. But books were static forms of information, which was part of why everyone pretty much used electronic formats nowadays.

"Im..." she cut herself off. Obviously it wasn't impossible, because here it was. She wasn't one to doubt the evidence of her own eyes. "Never mind. Yes, if you could show me it would be a big help. It's been a long day already" And it was still relatively morning for her. Ah, just another day in the Corps.

Robin smiled gently at her. She seemed even more taken aback at the idea of people having back and forth conversations within a bound book of paper sheets than she was by the book itself. He knew it was disconcerting. It was for him, too, at first. He came from a time of parchment and scrolls, not bound books. Especially not bound books that magically had writing in them. Although, magic was more plausible to him than it was to her, perhaps.

"I would be happy to." He pushed the doors to the main building open and looked around for a moment, gaining his bearings. It still turned him around sometimes to be in this strange place. He headed for one of the dorms and pointed to the large A that adorned the top of the entrance. "You'll be on the lower level, down the hall." He held the door for her. "I'll leave you here, unless I can provide some other assistance?"

Torin snorted slightly at Robin's last comment. "I think I can find my own room." This place at least didn't seem to enjoy rearranging things like Big Yellow had. "Thank you" she said almost as an afterthought. He had been helpful.
