The girl wasn't moving, or reacting to much of anything. When he spoke to her it was as if she was trying to grab onto the concept of his words but couldn't quite get it. Maybe there was something mentally wrong with her, preventing her from fully communicating with Jacob. Helping her may turn out to be a more challenging job than he was figuring. But regardless of her mental state, this girl was upset, and he couldn't stand to see her continue to cry like that.
His twin sisters always manipulated Jacob in to getting what they wanted by shedding a few tears. They knew that he couldn't resist the misery of the fairer sex. It was a dirty trick, yes, but it worked every time and would surely work with this poor thing as well.
When she finally spoke, her words were strange and fractured. Jacob couldn't quite understand what she was talking about but he could grasp the basic gist of it; she was all alone and missing someone badly. Well, they had one thing in common then, being alone sucked.
Still afraid to approach her for fear that she would get spooked, Jacob kept his distance until the girl collapsed to the floor and began hugging her knees. Auto pilot took over then, and the young man closed the distance between the two of them quickly. He crouched before the upset stranger, letting his mass of black hair fall over his shoulders, and looked deep into that tortured face.
"They say that you aren't truly lost if someone knows where you are. Well, I've found you, so maybe you're a little less lost than you were a few moments ago." He bit his bottom lip at the awkwardness of his words. "I bet I don't make any sense, so forgive me. I think I'm a little lost myself, but don't worry, nothing is forever."
Jacob pushed his hair back behind his ears and rested his chin on his knee. "Will you tell me your name, or should I make one up for you? If you want me to pick one, I warn you now, I'm incredibly unimaginative."
