WHO: The Doctor and Edward Cullen
WHERE: By the TARDIS and the Volvo
WHEN: Morning, Day Five
WHAT: Meeting
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

It was fairly early in the morning, the day after the dance, and his fateful reunion with Rose. The Doctor, understandably, was in a great mood, and bounced around the TARDIS for a while, nonplussed by the fact that he couldn't get her fully functional again, because well, if there was a place to be stuck, this one was better than any other, as he had some of his best friends along for the ride. Just like he liked it, actually.

But really, if he kept jumping around like he was, he was going to wake up Rose (and he'd done that before, it wasn't pretty), so the Doctor decided to have a look around outside, to see the City in the daylight. He didn't get far though, because on the far side of the TARDIS was a Volvo, and the boy heading toward it was sparkling. Sparkling!

The black rimmed glasses came out and went on, his hair shot off into eight thousand different directions as he raked his hands through it, and the Doctor fishmouthed for a second before running up to the kid, probably scaring the crap out of him. "You sparkle! Sparkle! Why do you sparkle!? I'm the Doctor by the way. Why do you sparkle!?" He was seriously about two point four seconds from shoving his sonic screwdriver up the kid's nose. It was even out and ready to go, in his hand.

Edward had had his private thinkfest the night before and had come up with only three solid feelings on the matter and no real answers. The first thing that he was plagued with was that he was angry that he'd been kidnapped. No, things weren't as bad as all that, but the whole principle of the thing was pretty damn well infuriating. He'd just decided to face his fears head on and stop hurting the people he loved by running away and now this. He hated when circumstances trumped his resolve.

The second thing that he'd been mulling over was Juniper and his rather drastic and immediate response to her. He was thankful that he'd fed the night before leaving Denali because he doubted very much that he would be able to tolerate being so close to her without doing something unforgivable. Yes, he was good at his chosen path but why tempt fate? He was going to have to be very careful about his feeding habits.

The third problem was the one he was avoiding at all costs thinking about because it disturbed him far too much to put into words. It was also, consequently, the one thing that was going to smack him in the face earlier than he realised.

It was fairly early in the day, Juniper hadn't even woken yet, when he decided to go and check on his car. He was a little uncertain about whether or not it was safe where he'd left it now that he'd become slightly more accustomed to the insanity of the world he'd found himself in. Even if the car was safe and sound he decided he should check the fuel meter just be sure of how much gas he had on hand even though he was pretty sure he had just filled it. He tended to use a lot of gas, better to be safe than sorry.

It was when he was almost to the parked car that he was suddenly under attack by a face which was much more familiar than he was comfortable with, even though he'd never met the man flailing around him. The moment the buzzing blue and silver cylinder appeared in the other man's hand Edward felt his stomach twist with a sense of dread, but just for a moment. After all how often do you get to meet your fictional heroes? Never.

A grin spread over Edward's face as a feeling of the sureal overcame him. He laughed. "The Doctor. Of course. And you have your TARDIS. Why didn't this occur to me last night when I was parking? Oh, right. Because that would have been stupid." He shook his head and decided that of all the people he needed to keep his guard up with, this was not one of them. After all if a time travelling alien had a problem with a sparkling vampire then there was something wrong there and certainly not with him.

"My name is Edward Cullen and I'm . . . well, glittering because I'm a vampire. Please don't bleep me with that."

This kid certainly had the goods on the Doctor, and normally that would make him feel very uncomfortable, but the Doctor was far to interested in the sparkle on his skin, but somehow under it, to care. Besides, that woman at the dance had said something about knowing him from a television show. And really, it wouldn't be the first time that he'd encountered a fan.

"Right, right. What planet are you from?" the Doctor asked, and completely ignored the request about the sonic screwdriver. If this Edward bloke knew him, then obviously he knew that it wasn't that easy to turn the Doctor off once he got started.

And so, the sonic screwdriver kept up it's bleeping as the Doctor drew it up and down Edward's arm, and then up to his face, shining it in his eyes. "That's brilliant, that is. Seriously, where are you from?"

Edward sighed when the sonic screwdriver stayed out and suddenly flashed in his eyes. He sighed and rolled his eyes and determined that while his antics were certainly amusing enough to watch, he understood why Donna had punched him a time or two. He wondered briefly if she were lurking around somewhere or if he was on his own. He eyed the TARDIS curiously and then laughed to himself. Maybe I can catch a ride and go home. Juniper would like that.

"Earth. Forks, Washington to be specific. And you're a timelord from Gallifrey, really could you put that away? You don't have to buzz me to get information out of me, I'll answer your questions. I figure if I don't I'll just never be rid of you and you may be my ticket out of here. I don't suppose you'd give a ride home to a stranded stranger would you?" Edward smiled charmingly and took a step closer to the TARDIS to inspect it which put him in the shade and out of the sun. The glittering immediately ceased. He knocked on the wood of the blue box and shook his head. "I can't believe this is real."

The Doctor pouted and relented at the answers that Edward gave, putting away his screwdriver and taking off his glasses, shoving them in any random pocket that he'd found first. They were bigger on the inside, after all.

"You're a vampire from Earth? How have I not run into one of you lot before? And the sun bit, you're not that old, how can you stand it? Rose said..." then he pursed his lips. Clearly, this was a different breed of vampire. No fangs, either. He watched Edward investigate the TARDIS and raised an eyebrow as the glittering stopped. "You only sparkle in the sun then. Brilliant," he nodded. "Must be the reason for the only coming out at night bit."

The Doctor sighed. "Normally, I would. She's down currently, otherwise I wouldn't be here myself," he admitted. "How do you know so much about me? About the TARDIS?"

"Yes or living in the Pacific Northwest, which is my preference really since I can't stand being cooped up for that long. I need to be out and doing something, even something monotonous. I think you can understand that better than anyone." Edward smiled briefly and then immediately frowned. Of course in the incredibly impossible situation where he met the Doctor the TARDIS would be out of commission. Edward's luck was really starting to become pathetic.

"I don't really want to tell you. I'm beginning to have a few unhealthy suspicions about the frailty of exsistance and I'd hate to do the same thing to another living creature, especially not one I respect. Suffice to say that I'm a fan." Edward laughed again and shook his head. If he ever got home he was going to have to spend hours answering all of Carlisle's questions about this little side trip.

"So, how did you find yourself here? Were you kidnapped too or did you just set the wrong date again and wind up here by accident? Who do you have with you, or are you on your own?" Edward laughed again and realized he was beginning to sound just like the man in front of him. "I apologize. You're the one who's supposed to be asking the questions."

The Doctor listened to Edward and nodded a bit, cataloging all the information for later use. Anything, however insignificant, might help in getting the lot of them out there. A fan. So he was right, to a point. "One woman told me I was on the tele, but then didn't explain herself," he said with a raise of his eyebrow. "Is that what you're not telling me?"

"It's alright," he said with a shake of his head, chuckling a bit. "I was just done dropping off a friend, got back in the TARDIS, and then found myself here. Wasn't meaning to, that's for certain. And now she's in a bit of a coma, I can't quite figure out what's wrong with her," he grumbled, patting the side of the TARDIS lovingly.

Edward's interest and excitement, however, was engaging, and the Doctor considered it a moment before saying anything. There wasn't any harm in it, and really, he did love the first time. "Want to see inside?" he offered, pushing open both doors and stepping aside. "Don't touch anything."

Edward eyed him and then sighed and nodded. "Yes, that's what I'm not telling you. There's a television show on the BBC about a time traveling alien named the Doctor and his companions. It's been on for the better part of fifty years now on and off and I've been keeping up with it. Sort of . . . a guilty pleasure." Edward wasn't sure why he felt that was so embarrassing. Emmett watched WWW matches unashamedly. "I've also encountered a few other 'characters' from various popular media and I'm trying to convince myself it doesn't mean anything."

"In a way it makes sense. If you were going to be brought here and stuck with the rest of us, she would have to be disabled other wise your escape would be far too easy. Of course if they'd known anything about you they would have realized it was unnecessary to do that since you probably view this ... reality or dimension or whatever it is as something of a giant toy box but then, I doubt they keep up with populat television." Edward eyed the TARDIS with something of a look of disappointment. He'd been counting on it for his escape once he'd put everything together.

Of course his face shot back, alight with excitement at the offer. "Really? I mean you'd- never mind. Of course you would." He quickly stepped inside the TARDIS and looked around as amazed as any character on the show had ever been. Rather than step outside and do the full circle however, Edward dodged inside and walked around the console making sure not to touch any of the controls. He did have to put his hands against one of the support beams just to make sure he wasn't dreaming and laughed joyously when he found it solid. "This is amazing."

The Doctor pursed his lips and shook his head. He didn't know how much he liked having his life broadcast on the television for the general public's entertainment. Though it was slightly amusing. "I'm not a character," he insisted, and then blinked. "Alright, so I've been called that more than once, but not in that context. I'm as real as you are, Edward."

"Toy box it might be, but that doesn't mean I like being stranded here. It's like I'm a...human. A normal human," he said, wrinkling his nose. That wasn't nice at all. But then again, he was rude and not ginger, and stuck in his barmy place, so whatever.

He grinned, rocking back and forth on his feet with his hands shoved in his pockets, watching Edward investigate the TARDIS. "Nice to have someone that really gets it aboard," he muttered with a nod and a smile. "Keep it down though, Rose is asleep," he said, gesturing toward the hall that seemed to go on forever. "I'd reckon you'd know her too then, if what you say about the tele is true? And Jack as well?"

"Well obviously but see that's what I'm afraid of. If you're here and you're 'real' and the same goes for Armand of the Vampire Chronicles and Robin Hood and Jareth what about me? Am I just some figment of someone's imagination?" Now that he'd said it outloud he looked just a bit terrified. The prospect of having someone come up to him and inform him that he was their favorite character was more than a little alarming.

Edward made a face in response to the Doctor's own ire. Granted he wasn't human but he liked his routine even if it had been recently disturbed by a rather unfortunate addition to his small town. "I know what you mean, sort of. I'm not fond of this place either. I mean it's alright for now but I'd eventually like to find a way out."

Edward immediately adjusted the volume of his voice. "Rose Tyler? And Jack Harkness, of course." Edward tapped his chin as he gazed down the hall looking well and truly amused. "I don't think I'd enjoy meeting Jack very much. Too much like my brother Emmett in some ways and so drastically different in others. All the wrong ones."

"We're not," the Doctor insisted. "We're living, breathing and beating - well one of us is. Regardless, we exist. If anything, we're not products of imagination, but rather the inspiration for something or other," he shrugged.

"I'm working on it," the Doctor promised. "And once I figure this thing out, anyone that would like a lift home has one. No one should be kept against their will." The Doctor laughed quietly and gestured outside, letting Rose sleep before she came out and started throwing things at them. Alright, she wasn't that bad, but still. Things were good between the pair of them, and he wasn't about to foul it up. "Jack is an acquired taste," he agreed, shaking his head.

His brow furrowed. "If you're so familiar with my life, I have a question for you. What's the last thing you remember happening to me?" This was very important, particularly if Jack and Rose were to run into this kid at some point. He didn't want them subjected to the truth from anyone but himself.

"I hope you're right about that one, Doctor because I don't think I can handle the alternative." He was glad the Doctor was so nonchalant about it because it gave him some kind of hope - then again he was the one that Edward knew for a fact was a character on television.

Edward laughed and followed him outside. Jack certainly was that. Sure he was amusing on TV but he didn't think he'd enjoy spending time with him very much.

"I'm not sure I should tell you." If the Doctor was still with Jack and Rose then maybe he hadn't met Donna Noble yet. He didn't want to screw up the other man's timeline for him either. While he was deciding something else occured to him. He darted forward with vampiric speed, not feeling at all the need for subtlty and leaned in towards the Doctor's jugular vein. Nothing.

Edward looked astounded. "I don't want to bite you!"

The Doctor sighed. At least this kid had learned something over years of watching his...television show. That was something that was going to take some getting used to. "Well, sorry for any spoilers, but the last thing I did before coming here was dropping Rose back in the parallel dimension, Jack, Martha and Mickey in Cardiff, and Donna back at her family's home, with no recollection of anything that had happened while she travelled with me," he admitted, looking off in order to control the still very fresh emotion.

Which is why he didn't see Edward coming, and just about jumped out of his skin. Then he laughed. "That'd be because I'm a Time Lord, not a human," he pointed out, as if that was the most simple explanation in the world. "Two hearts, different blood, I'm not surprised, honestly," he shrugged.

Edward beamed as if he'd found the sun and felt an impulse to hug the other man, one he curbed for fear of squashing him under his superior strength. He backed off instead and shook his head. "I'm sorry it's just . . . humans, they're everywhere. Even at my best their scent still triggers the thirst but with you . . . nothing. I can't explain to you what a relief that is, to have a conversation with someone and not be thinking in the back of your mind about what they'd taste like." He laughed and shook his head and then went back to the first order of business.

"Well it sounds like I'm caught up with recent events then more or less. There was a Christmas episode after that but nothing too earth shattering happened there. Poor Donna, I really liked her too. She kept you in line." He had caught the man's moment of emotional turmoil of course, he hadn't been that distracted. Anyone else might have missed it but for Edward time almost seemed to move slower, the moments lingering longer. He quickly changed the subject.

"So you dropped off Donna and then came here and found Rose. God that must have been bizarre."

The Doctor gave a jerky little nod and grinned. "Glad I could help." Admittedly, it was nice to not be threatened for once. That happened far too often for his liking. He just wanted to travel, jeez.

"Yeah, poor Donna," he echoed with a shake of his head, fiddling with something in his pocket. And really, it could have been anything from a wind-up mouse to a stethoscope to an apple. You never knew what he was going to pull out of there.

"Rose, who is probably going to wake up soon," he smiled, looking toward the TARDIS. "It was very bizarre, but good. Do me a favour, Edward. Don't talk to Rose or Jack about what happened after we put the Earth back," he asked seriously. "They were pulled from different points in their timelines, they don't know about all of it."

"Well of course not," Edward nodded completely understanding. "I was hesitant to tell you anything and I more or less trust you not to screw with your timeline. Rose on the other hand has a tendency to get emotionally involved with things and try to change them for the better and I know Jack can't be trusted. If I see them I'll keep my mouth shut and see what I can do to steer them away from anyone who might give anything away." He supposed that was going a bit out there, but really what else was he going to do but try and help the Doctor any way he could? The man sort of inspired it out of people. It made Edward smile to find that he was no less immune.

"So, I don't suppose you've made an attempt at the labyrinth yet? I was thinking of going in with Juniper sometime soon - Juniper is . . . well . . . well I suppose she would be my . . . girlfriend." Edward looked a little puzzled at saying that for the first time but it brought a small smile to his face before he shook his head and got back on track. He going giggle about that in private later, the Doctor didn't care about his love life. "Anyway, she's a telepath like me and has a few other abilities that I thought might be useful. You're welcome to join us if you like. I'm not sure when we'll be doing that. We thought that if we got through it they might let us leave."

The Doctor laughed. "You definitely know them well," he said with a roll of his eyes. Edward certainly had Rose and Jack pegged to a T, that was for sure. Then again, it must be a lot easier to see patterns when you're watching events with the ability to pause and rewind, rather than living them.

Edward's little smile had the Doctor beaming. "That's why I love you lot," he said, reaching out impulsively to hug Edward. "You're ripped from your homes and thrown into an impossible situation, and still, still..." He shook Edward's shoulders a little bit, grinning. "You find love, you build relationships, you make plans. Brilliant!" he cried, throwing his hands up in the air. "Humans! I love them!"

Anyway..."I'll talk to Rose and Jack about making a group effort of it," he nodded. "The three of us were going to make a go sometime soon. I'll let you know."

Edward laughed at the Doctor's typical response and shook his head slightly. He was no more human than the Doctor - less so in someways - but he didn't want to kill the man's buzz by pointing that out. He knew that the Doctor was more agreeable when there was hope in the world and you didn't correct him and besides, the sentiment of congratulations was still pure enough for Edward to let it slide.

"That sounds good. I figure with the five of us it should be a fairly simple project assuming that we can pool our resources together. Oh, speaking of resources I should probably ask what the last things that happened to Jack and Rose were so I don't say anything to mess with their time lines? It would also help to know what we have to work with as far as skills and experience." After all it would make a world of difference if Rose had been pulled out of a time and place before she'd been pulled through the void versus being pulled in from the other side after she'd been working for Torchwood.

"Uhhh..." The Doctor hedged, trying to remember. "Jack's working with Torchwood," he said with a wrinkle of his nose and a roll of his eyes. "He can't die, or well, stay dead, and I don't think he's all that far off from Earth being swiped, though it's hard to tell with him," he shrugged.

"Rose is still in the parallel dimension, working on her cannon and working for that Torchwood." The one place he'd rather avoid, and both of his best friends worked there. Fantastic. Next thing he'd hear is that Martha signed up, and Donna's temping for them. "Regardless, I don't think either one of them are too far off from where I am," he shrugged. "They've just missed out on one or two mildly important events," he said with a sarcastic tone and a humorous flash of his eyes. "Rose knows that the stars are going out though. Honestly, it'd probably be better if you just avoided it all completely."

Edward nodded and then had a thought. "You had issues with Jack because he was immortal, a 'fact' as you put it. Is it the same with me? Do I stand out as wrong?" There was simple curiosity there, but Edward's motives in asking went deeper than that. He wasn't certain how much he could balance of this answer but if the time lord told him that yes, he had issues with him then Edward would know that yes indeed he was an abomination and shouldn't exist. If however the Doctor told him that he didn't then perhaps, just perhaps, Carlisle was right and there was hope for them after all.

Edward nodded at the Doctor's advice. "I can do that. Its just better to be safe than sorry and I'd prefer not to make mistakes. I could probably have gotten all of it from their head's anyway but I try not to read people's minds if I can help it."

The Doctor thought about that for a minute. "But you're not immortal, Edward. Are you? You can be killed, no matter how difficult it might be, right?" he questioned, pretty much knowing the answer. "Jack cannot die. Ever, as near as I can figure. And even Jack...Meh," he shrugged and then grinned. "I got over it. Think about it, Edward. You and I are the same. Very difficult to kill kill, and liable to stick around for far longer than we're welcome. I can't have a problem with you without having a problem with myself."

"Telepathic as well...Interesting," he muttered, pondering that for a minute or two. He'd definitely have to talk to Edward further, but as it was, he could hear movement inside the TARDIS. "Perhaps we can get together later in the week, discuss the maze and the like? I really need to get back in there before she thinks I've ditched her again," he laughed, rolling his eyes. At least Edward knew what that all meant.

"Jack does die though. He's the Face of Boe, remember? Though I don't even want to think about what happens to the rest of him by that point." Edward looked a little confused but he felt better at the Doctor's answer. Maybe Carlisle was right if he ever saw him again he'd have to tell him about this.

Edward smiled and nodded. "Enjoy it while you can, Doctor. I think at this point you both deserve it." Edward wasn't very good at receiving relationship advice but it was hard not to give it after he'd sat there for a few years watching Rose and the Doctor dance around each other and trying not to scream 'just kiss her already!' at the television screen. "I should probably check on Juniper anyway. I left a note but I probably shouldn't stay away too long. She'll probably come looking for me and who knows what kind of trouble she could get into in this place."

The Doctor laughed and shook his head. "That's what he says, anyway," he shrugged. That whole thing confused even him. "I don't want to know either. And I certainly don't want to be around when Jack looses the parts most important to him," he chuckled.

"She sounds like Rose," he grinned, and then shook Edward's hand. "It was great meeting you, Edward," he smiled, and then watched the boy go before going back inside the TARDIS to talk Rose into making French toast for him.
