Who: Callisa - Narrative When: Week Twelve; Saturday Feb 21st - afternoon Where: Woods of Rinth Summary: Callisa is taking the children at the community center for a trek through the woods and teaching them some small survival skills Warning: None
Callisa stretched, her small feet firmly planted on the ground as she stretched her arms high above her towards the sky. Since the ending of the darkness, except for the normal night time darkness, Callisa had been spending as much time outside as she could. Though it was cloudy out, the sun did burst through when it could and the air was a warm sixty-one degrees. Okay, maybe that wasn’t exactly warm, but it was warm enough for her to be outside.
“Ms. Callisa, Ms. Callisa,” came the friendly yell of children who had come rushing out of the community center to greet her.
“Hello, children!” She stopped with her stretching and opened her arms wide so they could all rush in for hugs. Callisa made sure to give each and every one a bit of her attention, not wanting any to leave anyone out. “Do you know what we are going to do today, my princes and princesses?” She grinned at all of them. When no answer came, as she knew none of them knew, she gave the answer. “Today we are going to go for a small hike in the woods. “I am going to show you little things to do in case you ever get lost, like how to make a fishing pole, and which berries are safe to eat and which are not, as well as how to make a small fire,” she smiled. She even had an idea to take them to her small hut she’d made when she had been living in the woods, showing them how to make one just in case.
She hoped none of them had to use these traits, but if it came down to it they had a chance of survival.
“Ms. Callisa, my momma says to never go into the woods alone,” said Ralphie, a small boy who tugged on her hand.
“Your mother is right, Ralphie,” she smiled. “None of you mustn’t ever go into the woods alone, and that doesn’t mean going in with a friend,” she shook her head. “If you have a parent with you, that is fine, but never go with just you and a friend,” she smiled as they all nodded her heads. “Okay, everyone get with your buddy, and remember the buddy system. We all holds hands with someone and know always where our partners are, okay?”
“Okay,” came a chorus of young voices. When everyone was with their original partner, she pulled out her phone and sent a short text to Maleko to alert him of her taking the children on a small field trip into the woods. When she was done, she returned the phone back to her pocket and they all headed off.
Before the end of the day, each child would know how to make a fishing rod from a stick and other things found in the woods as well as how to make a small fire, make shelter, and safety. There would be other little facts tossed into the teachings like which side of a tree moss grew on, how to mark trees or boulders to notify them that they may be traveling in circles instead of going straight as well as other such things.
It would be a fun filled day, and after it was over she would be ready to fall exhaustedly into cuddles with Maleko, that is if he was home; She would just have to see when the end of the day came.
