"Merci." Fancy said, returning Marie's smile. She had a nice, motherly kind of smile that was all at once both heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. Fancy missed her mother, the only parent she had ever known. And she couldn't help but think how bitterly disappointed and humiliated her mother would be over her now. No furs, jewels, or amount of money would sugar coat what Fancy had become. It was the only thought that made her feel guilty.
It was also what prevented her from reaching out to make a friend, she figured there was little point in bothering. She'd always be looked down upon once the truth was known.
