He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow at her comment, then sighed and leaned back in his chair.
"There's no point in sending the letter if they're not going to understand it."
He rubbed his hands over his eyes, almost tired again, then grabbed another piece of paper.
Dear Aunt Mabel,
I hope this letter finds you well. I apologize for taking so long to reply to your last, but Paris, while still beautiful, makes life far more difficult than it used to be.
I wish I was back there with you, on the farm, and could see the twins myself. It still pains me I could not be there for their birth, but I have no doubt they are easy babies - they are yours, after all.
Please let Grandfather know that I am doing well here, though I am terribly homesick. I miss your cooking almost as much as I miss you.
Give all my cousins a kiss goodnight for me. I hope to come home soon.
