“What, did you guys have a threesome?” Carlos demanded. Because in what other context would ‘Tex being on top of Harry’ ever make sense, where York would know about it? He looked between the two men, outraged. What the hell?
Harry shook his head, laughing, “No, you idiot,” he scolded the little Warden. “She tried to kill me, and yeah, I definitely didn’t want to see her soul, man. It scared the hell out of me.” Harry had seen a lot of ugly shit in his life, but the soul of Texas, Freelancer and Spartan, was not something he wanted in his mind forever. No, thank you. But then that also meant he had to admit she didn’t have a soul, and that was almost as bad. It weirded him out a little bit when he thought about it too much.
No soul. Still human? Debatable.
He looked down at his hands briefly.
Carlos watched this for a second. “She tried killing you and your response was to bang her? Or is she lying about that part?”
Harry quirked a brow and shrugged.
Carlos scowled. “What the fuck?”
Outraged. He shook his head. “Do you hear this man?” He demanded of York. “Madre de Dios,” he grumbled. “And no, I ain’t staying. Homegirl looks like she wants to murder me and while I’m down for a little rough play, I ain’t into that. I’m living in the barracks. Which one’s the skinwalker in, Harry?”
Harry grinned a little, looking too pleased with himself about Texas. Fucking nerdy ass wizard. “Uhh, 200? Goes by the name Grey. He’s on the up and up, far as I can tell, but I wouldn’t walk around him looking weak for anything in the world.”
Carlos nodded curtly. “Is he legit?”
“A scion.”
Carlos frowned.

That had York tilting his head just a bit at Harry, clearly curious. He hadn’t wanted to see Texas’ soul? It scared the Hell out of him? The look on his face was questioning. Harry had seen her soul?
Why did York seem to have an issue understanding that?
Because he knew she didn’t have one.
But he was distracted a second later, turning to look at Carlos. “She thought she was protecting me, it wasn’t because of Harry, not really. And if it makes any difference, I think she felt badly about trying? She doesn’t usually make mistakes, so it’s sort of a big deal for her, to be wrong about something.” Like any woman. Hah. The thought made the golden boy grin slowly. “It’s not a big deal.” Carlos shouldn’t be too worried about it.
“At least stay the night here, man. Take the pills, get some good sleep. I’ve got a shift at the med bay, Tex can take my bed tonight.. Ed needs a little excitement in his life. You’ll be safe here.” He just wanted the sword-wielding man to feel safe for the night, he was injured and this was a new place.
What? York was a natural protector. He couldn’t help himself.
