When Jason reacted in such a way to the suggestion they were on a date, Cas squinted down his eyes, as if he didn't understand, and watched the poor young man sputter. He didn't understand, Jason had just said--
Oh.
"Sometimes I have trouble picking up on sarcasm." He admitted at length. "I didn't mean any offense." But really, the angel couldn't be blamed, he didn't understand the issues some people had between dating and gender roles. God and his angels were entirely indifferent to sexual orientation. It was only humans who made such a big deal out of it. In Heaven, being hetero or homosexual was seen as little more than being right or left handed. It just didn't matter. They both worked the same, why make a big deal out of it?
The waitress wrote down Jason's order with care before turning her hundred watt smile onto the darker man across from him. "And what can I get for you, darling?" She asked with a slight lean forward, pen poised to write.
"Just a coffee, please. Thank you." Cas had learned how to drink coffee, at least, so he wouldn't look so very strange sitting and doing nothing while he ate with someone. Dean had taught him that, told him it made him look more human. And who was the angel to ignore advice such as that? Especially when it was such good advice.
With the waitress gone and the two of them alone again, Castiel watched the man across from him curiously for a few seconds before he asked his first question.
"You have two brothers, is that right?" He'd heard Dean mention them. Dick and Tim. Tim Todd. What an unfortunate name.
