Learning the proper care of armaments is important, but you are correct that travel is ill suited to acquiring the skill. Forging requires stationary positioning and a steady hand. Certainly it takes considerable time and dedication to learn, something that can be difficult given the limited length of your generations. I would be more than happy to teach you how to properly mend and repair your armor however, provided we can find suitable materials. I do suspect that finding a place hot enough to heat the metal will not be difficult however.
