She laughed, an airy sound. "Pro'ly a more comf'ble ride than from the... inside," she joked. The ambulances squealed to a halt, medics pouring out of them, a cop car not far behind. She kept hold of his hand as the emergency technicians surrounded her, all barking words she tried to filter out, making her head pound.
"Are you a friend, sir?" a medic asked Matt as he worked. If they were surprised by the kevlar or a shooting down by the docks, they gave no sign of it.
