She laughed in spite of the pain and the confusion, clenching at the pain in her abdomen. "Unseasonably warm," she agreed with what she could muster of a smirk. "Told it's beautiful... down by the water. Think they meant the lake, though." She raised her hand to touch her chest where the bullet would have gone straight through her, near or into her heart, if the kevlar hadn't stopped it.
"Worst case scenario," she told him, her lips numb, mumbling the words. "Have to hear those... I-told-you-so's now. Just wanted to help. Play to your strengths, that's what I'm always... telling my students. I'm a teacher. It's a dirty thing to shoot an unarmed school teacher, wouldn't you agree?"
