Vanessa dragged her eyes away from the carnage and met his. He looked so vulnerable then that it shook her for a moment, then she joined him. She set her case aside and looked over the console with him.
"He did love lording things like this over everyone," she said. "The attention it got him." She put a tentative hand against his arm.
She looked out over the bodies and perked up. "Not everyone died of the gas," she said softly. "Even just from here, I see gunshot wounds, stab wounds. But then I guess they'd have to do that in order to escape. But it's all so... typically criminal. The Joker was too fond of his gadgets not to use them."
