"But Sirius! I don't understand why you won't just go with me on Saturday." The girl clinging to his arm had a whiny voice. Sirius stared at her like a dog listening to a dog whistle. To him, that's what her voice was. Why had he decided to go out with her? Oh yeah, because she'd flirted with him a little and he couldn't refuse a pretty face.
"I'm just not interested in sneaking out to a party at your brother's house in Hogsmeade." It was a total lie. He was extremely interested in going to the party, just not with her. He needed to find some way to get her to let go of his arm so he could give her is 'lets go our separate ways' speech. "Listen, Cindy, we need to talk."
"No, we don't. There's nothing to talk about." She tilted her head, trying to look cute an innocent, trying to keep his attention on her. Too bad it wasn't working.
"Yes there is. I -" He looked around and his eyes fell on a girl reading in the courtyard. He'd found his out. "I've found someone else." He said, with more confidence than he had at the moment. Cindy let go of his arm and stared at him like he'd just told her that she was fat. He backed away from her, towards the girl reading. He sat down next to her on the bench and put his arm around her shoulders. "Isn't that right, sugarpuss?" He looked at her like she was the most important person on the planet, yet he didn't even know her name. He leaned in as though he was going to kiss her neck, but whispered "Play along" in her ear.
