Cosette was sure Sirius would get bored with her, even forget her after this conversation. She didn't mind, though. While she had a crush on him, she was also too smart to think they could ever be anything. She was too smart to let him try. "We'll see," she said to the girl's retreating back with a confidence she didn't normally have.
She felt Sirius' arm drop from around her and at the same time, felt a swell of disappointment but she kept it hidden. "It's no problem," she said softly, her shyness returned at the worst possible time. Her large green eyes turned to him and she bit down on her lip gently. "I've learned that if you help out others, they might be willing to help you when you need it."
She heard him say she looked familiar and ask where he knew her from. She shrugged as though she wasn't sure they'd ever spoken one on one before. "We're in the same house and year, you've probably seen me in classes or the dorm from time to time," she said with a shrug. "Plus, my best friend happens to be the girl your best friend is chasing." A person didn't have to have a crush on Sirius Black to know that he and James Potter were inseparable, and she heard more than enough ranting from Lily about James that even if she didn't observe it herself, she would know he liked her.
