[Steve is more vulnerable to this event. Anyone who knows his history could imagine why. He slept for almost seventy years. The dreaming part is the only thing that's new. It's perhaps why his dreams draw so heavily on the past.
This one for example takes him back to the 1940s apartment that a much smaller Steve occupied. Stew that smells strongly of potatoes is cooking on a rickety stove seated next to the kitchen sink.
Steve is sitting at a table that looks suspiciously like a broken tub with wood over it, sketching a scene outside the window. A worn blanket is thrown over his shoulders. He looks a little pale which is little wonder considering how cold it is in the apartment even with the food going. He'll still greet you with a tentative smile.]
Dinner's almost ready. You're hungry, right?
two.
[This one takes place in a bustling, 1940s dance club. The one in this scene to be specific. It's chaotic and menacing. Any modern soldier from Earth might be able to pick up on what's wrong. The camera going off sounds like shells hitting the ground. The dancers have mysterious red stains on their clothing or seem to be fighting one another. Steve flinches at nearly everything as he navigates through it in his dress uniform. He appears lost until a woman appears behind him. Maybe you catch what she says, maybe you don't. Steve looks spooked at the sight of her....
Then suddenly the dance hall is empty. Steve stands there, staring blankly at the empty as if willing it to come back. The scary part is that sometimes it does. They dance for a moment before she disappears again. The process repeats over and over again.]
three.
[This one is the scariest of them all. Steve is in a downed airship in the Arctic. He's laying down in the mangled space, shield at his side, and hand holding tight to an object. His face is smashed up from the impact. It's clear he's slowly freezing to death. His skin is turning blue and the water over his body is freezing as well. He still makes no effort to save himself. He seems to accept the situation.
It gets worse when you try to rescue him. The arms from the dead lift out of the water to hold him in place, all whispering the same thing,] He belongs here. He has to stay.
