plotting post - the sacred sakura event
Alright! Here's our upcoming Cool Thing we've mentioned now and then.
The event starts on the 19th this month, when the world will change into Tsubasa Reservoir's Suwa/Nihon countries - basically, an old-style Japan. The country won't be quite the same one - there'll be sakura trees everywhere, with (this does match Nihon) the usual center sakura still in place, now emanating a powerful magical aura.
Characters will be sorted into warriors (these countries have a ninja/samurai hybrid as a norm, and they'll get special weapons for this), or priests/priestesses. Keep in mind this is NOT a full AU! They will all remember who they really are.
What are the warriors for, then? To defeat the youkai around, of course! While the city is protected by various magical barriers, some monsters can still crawl close enough to cause trouble. Priests could try to fight, but they're ineffective against the creatures around. Sounds easy enough, right? Weeaboo town, fight weird blobs...
But there's a catch, of course. The monsters aren't after the humans in the city - they're after the sakura trees. These are the source of magic and power that holds the whole city together, and the more the youkais get to nom the trees, the stronger they get. The more the sakura are eaten, the worse the magic weakens!
This means the sakura will begin to lose their own power, turning whiter and whiter. The weather will become worse, with dark skies and storms. The buildings will appear to age as though dozens of years went past in a moment. The warriors themselves might start losing their own magical skills, if they have them. And with stronger monsters? The center sakura is at greater risk, of course.
So... here's where the priests/priestesses come into play. As anyone who has read Tokyo Babylon would know, sakura are pink because of the blood they obtain from those buried under them. And no, you don't have to bury corpses under them. However, they do require a sacrifice - either blood, or the character's own vital powers, both amounting to similar results: being weakened, and, should they try to do too much, risking death (or becoming a victim of the monsters).
Should people act in time, the sacrifices will restore the sakura in time to give the warriors a new advantage, and save the world!1!, ... just in time to return to Kiseki for April 1st, also known as CLAMP day. Surprise!
