Sorry about the early posting, but I won't have internet access tomorrow or the day after, so I figured I'd post now rather than two days late.
Sephiroth shut the door of his inner office behind him with a hidden sigh of relief. He didn’t have any meetings scheduled for today, at least he didn’t remember any, so he could hide away here and deal with his paperwork, instead of trying to deal with how people were reacting to him. Or the way he found himself reacting to his SOLDIERs.
He couldn’t understand why he was aroused when his SOLDIERs made it so obvious they were interested in his scent today, or what was so different about his scent from any other day. This had never happened before, it had taken Zack and Cloud a year each to work their way into his trust enough for him to feel any interest in them, before that he’d thought he was simply asexual, because of his fucked up biology. Only today...he let himself imagine their hands on his body for a moment, remembering how it felt when he let Zack take him and how Cloud tasted before shaking himself out of it, refusing to indulge in fantasy, but finding it harder to pull himself together than it usually was.
He strode over to his desk, quicker than usual in an effort to clear the last remains of those fantasies from his mind, and logged in, pulling up his schedule and e-mail automatically. As he’d thought his schedule was clear, but the first e-mail in his queue was from Medical.
They wanted him to come down to the infirmary ‘at your earliest convenience’? He answered with a single word, no, resisting the temptation to put it in the sort of huge font Zack would use to convey his feelings. After Cloud had killed Hojo - even if officially Hojo had died when one of his monster specimens had escaped - he’d made his feelings about medical environments quite clear. He’d agreed to allow Medical to perform his quarterly physicals in the infirmary, and to let them treat him there if he was knocked out, but for anything else they would come to him.
There probably would have been more trouble about Hojo’s death if he’d been the only scientist who knew how to make SOLDIERs, or if he’d had any success in replicating Sephiroth’s abilities, but Cloud had been the closest he’d come to that after he’d faked a medical failure and proceeded to offer him a chance to become a SOLDIER via a new ‘experimental’ treatment. And Cloud had killed Hojo over what he’d done to Sephiroth before he could do more than make Cloud a SOLDIER 3rd with some unusual abilities, unusual abilities that none of them knew the full extent of and didn’t dare test too much or too obviously. Even if Cloud had refused to tell even him or Zack about exactly how Hojo had died, Sephiroth knew that he’d really killed the scientist over what he’d done to him, after he’d asked him for advice on whether he should try to refuse Hojo’s offer or just go along with it. He’d been every bit as outraged as Zack had when he’d learned about how Sephiroth had grown up, only unlike Zack he’d had the chance to do something in revenge. Sephiroth knew that Zack would have done the same, but it had been Cloud who’d found a way to kill Hojo without being caught, and he didn’t show Cloud how much he appreciated that, or treat him as well as he deserved.
He found himself wondering what it would be like if Cloud was the one to take him, instead of yielding to Zack the way he always did on the rare occasion Sephiroth was willing to give up control that way. Or even more disturbingly he wondered what it would be like to feel Cloud in his other entrance, the one he’d never let anyone try before, if that would ease the vague ache and hollowness he’d been feeling since he woke up.
That speculation, so alien to his normal mode of thought startled him out of his musings, and with a shake of his head he set to work, trying not to give in to the temptation to indulge in the thoughts of Zack or of Cloud that kept on drifting into his mind, ruining his usual focus. Eventually he managed to concentrate enough that he was only distracted by fantasies as he changed from one report to the next, and even lost track of the time, so that it came as a surprise to hear the door open.
“Hey Seph, when did you decide you weren’t going to meet us for lunch today?” He glanced down at the on screen clock, only then realising that it was well past when he normally met his lovers for lunch.
“I didn’t Zack, not exactly.” Or at least not consciously - he really hadn’t wanted to leave his office after dealing with everyone trying to sniff at him. His secretary trying to press her face to his throat and asking him about ‘his cologne’ had been the last straw. “I apologise, I should have let you know I wasn’t going to show up.”
“It’s okay, we knew you weren’t that good at the social stuff coming into the relationship. Have you had anything to eat yet?”
“No, I...lost track of time a bit.” He’d been locking his computer as they spoke and he moved to join Zack at the small table to one side with a grateful smile when he saw the paper bag he was carrying.
“Thought you wouldn’t have. So I brought you some sandwiches.” Zack moved around the table to hug Sephiroth briefly as he sat down before putting the bag down in front of him. “You smell different today for some reason, and I know it’s not one of your body washes or shampoos.”
“Thank you for the sandwiches, but I don’t know why I smell different - except that apparently it’s inciting everyone I meet to harass me.” He only realised how that sounded after he’d finished speaking, and he lifted a hand to rest on Zack’s cheek with a smile. “I don’t mean you, I usually appreciate your attention, but the reactions I got on my way here are one reason I didn’t come to meet you and Cloud.”
Zack took hold of Sephiroth’s hand and turned his head to kiss his wrist before he spoke. “It’s that much worse than normal?”
“Well...yes.” The biggest problem was that he’d been responding to some of the advances, the ones from his SOLDIERs, at least on a mental and emotional level, and it made him feel dirty but Zack didn’t need to know that. “Can you and Cloud come to my quarters this evening, around six?”
“Yeah, that shouldn’t be a problem, should we eat first, or will you be cooking for us?”
He didn’t want to have to waste time with eating when he got his lovers alone with him. “Eat first. I’d try to meet you, except...”
“You don’t want to be mobbed again, I get it.” Zack grinned at Sephiroth. “Any chance I could talk you into something quick before I go and leave you alone with your work?” It was tempting, far too tempting, and it was with great reluctance that Sephiroth shook his head.
“No, we can’t, not now.”
“I’ll see you this evening then.” Zack kissed him briefly, and left, and Sephiroth found that with the knowledge of his plans for the evening warm inside him he could work without being interrupted by fantasy, well enough that he decided he could afford not to come in until noon the next day, and made sure his lovers would be able to stay with him the next morning.
